Hello, Im wondering what can and can't be done without BIS. I might go to a carrier that doesn't support BIS. I've done research and have read that without BIS you can do everything except:

use the BB browser but you can use any other browser like Opera.

Use BB email but you can use third party email apps like logicmail.

BBM.

Facebook

Twitter

Whatsapp.

Is there anything else?

And I would like to know with data plan and wifi.

Lastly, is there any workarounds for the things you can't do without BIS?
And not just via wifi, I want to be able to do it on data too.

Please help me!

Can't use BBM without BIS. Not sure if a regular data plan would work, but with the exception of BBM, you should be pretty good to go on WiFi

Hes talking about BBOS not BB10. BBM on BBOS requires a BlackBerry data plan.

Yeah I want to know on a regular plan and on wifi, not just on wifi.

My wife went overseas to a place that does not have BIS. We were able to communicate with BBM over WiFi, even with BBM Voice on a 9370 Curve running BBOS 7.1

Granted it was a currently activated phone on VZW that just didn't have access to 3G.

but it points to the only issue being activation. Once activated it should work.

If you have a BIS or BES plan somewhere in the world... Anytime you are on WiFi, it will connect to the BIS (or BES) server... Wherever you are in the world.

However, if you dont have any BIS/BES plan active, it wont work over wifi.

Is there a way to activate BIS or BES without having it on your plan?

What I really want is to have everything working with a regular plan and via wifi, or at least everything besides BBM, BB email or BB browser. I would love to have BBM but if its not possible then its okay, and email and browser can be done with third party apps so no problem there.

I had a 9780 on a generic data plan with T-Mobile US. The browser, BBM, BlackBerry World, FaceBook and most apps worked without BIS.
