    So had an idea

Concept: workplace staff scheduling application utilizing BlackBerry Messenger. BlackBerry Messenger could be used to interconnect employees providing them a real time schedule for easy reference. BBM would provide accountability for the employer and clarity of communication for all parties through its notifications. BBM would be an efficient, time saving platform for all parties to cover shifts in the event of workplace absence.

Current issues with traditional workplace shift scheduling and absence coverage:
The traditional methods of creating and publishing workplace schedules can be a lack of employee input towards availability causing an inefficient work flow due to unforeseen changes to the schedule. With BBM a common interconnected schedule could be created by allowing employees to input availability and shift preference ahead of time, a program organization utility could be integrated into the schedule to automatically create the majority if not all of the schedule using the employees input, based on the scheduler's criteria. Specific permissions could be used to create priority or placements within the schedule. For ease of use a pc or cloud based BBM platform can be integrated at the workplace for the initial schedule creation.
From the master schedule employees would be able to interconnect with each other to accommodate any needed changes that may or may not require approval, from there the schedule would dynamically update with changes. Because of bbm notifications there would be clarity of communication between individuals. The group would be updated with the changes keeping all parties informed. Bbm schedule notifications could be configured to provide alerts to users like the calendar alerts so staff is provided with reminders of shift dates and times reducing the possibility of staff forgetting work times.
Issues with staff coverage due to absence under traditional methods where a supervising employee needs to find short notice coverage are efficiently handed with BBM with a broadcast alert where employees can respond with availability and again a system utilizing moderator defined permissions can be used to award the shift to whichever individuals. This saves much time and provides transparency over traditional methods of using phone calls to achieve coverage.
BBM cross platform can provide the means to interconnect employees. For employees that do not have smartphones email messages and traditional printed schedules can be used.
