It's not going to look good if BBM for ios is unusable after a minor update a day after launch.

Ok so it's going to be blackberrys fault that an update came after they released their app and broke it? , I mean something should have been done to make it future proof, but how do we know something wasn't but something in the update is causing problems?

You may be onto something, after checking for updates and then sending a BBM to myself there was major lag opening the message the first time but now moments later it's back to opening quickly.

But it still works without lag.
I don't know maybe the check for update clogged the celluar pipeline for a moment.
