Alex Kinsella just posted on twitter that BBM for iOS was submitted 2 weeks ago for review and they are still waiting. At least BlackBerry isn't the hold up.

What I want to know is, what about Android?
Maybe it has already been approved and they are holding it back?

For Android, they just submit it and it will be up within hours. The hold back is Apple. Does anyone know how long the app review process usually is with Apple?

They could submit to Google Play on release day and it would be in the Play Store a few hours later.

Google posts apps immediately as it goes through the approval process.

I think two weeks is about the average.

Really? They let Viber, Skype, WhatsApp, so many other people in, you really think they wouldn't approve BBM? Would that even be legal?

The actual release date of an App Store app is still determined by the developer. One has a choice of releasing immediately after approval or to hold for release. If your app is going to be launched as part of a marketing campaign or if you need your servers to be ready then you will hold the app for release on a date of your choice. So, Blackberry still decides when it is launched.

I'm sure Apple will be glad to have the BBM app ready for the new iPhone launch. That way they can tell all of those Blackberry users that they can transfer all of their BBM contacts to a new iPhone. They probably will have their Apple Store sales people trained to install BBM and transfer the contacts as part of a new customer setup.

Well, I know that there are three options in submitting iTunes app:
    1. App is submitted, and as soon as it's approved it is available.
    2. App is approved and released at a later date.
    3. App is approved and you choose the release date at a later time.

The first two seem most likely, and with that said, if I had to choose which I would pick the second one.
I expect BlackBerry to have a specified date, also, I guess Apple is taking their time with this app as the average review time is 4 days.

Or perhaps BlackBerry told them to release it on September 12

Can't see them releasing it the when apple drops new phones and Ios7. Will take away the thunder for BBM. They would be smart to wait a week

Exactly, if September 12th is the date 10.2 is being sent to carriers, I would give it two weeks, except for the US carriers.
I expect the Z30, 10.2, and BBM to be released all one the same date.
Also, exactly two weeks from now is September 20th, a day before summer ends.

In one of the "September 12th" threads, I read Apple was the reason "September 12th" could not have been BBM related.

Yeah me too. And I thought that was debunked cause Kris said his sources didn't know too much about that. But judging from this tweet, it could very much be the case. Either way, I'm just excited

Can they just disapprove on principle ("we don't like you") or will they not have to find some flaw or infringement or rule-breaking?

Sounds like some folks at BBRY are covering their a**.

I'm sure they could just say no, but eventually they'd have to give a reason. BBRY could be on life support by then.

Maybe the nsa will convince apple it's a security risk.

It's apples app store, they have final say of what's approved or not, no reason needed

There would definitely be a backlash if they denied it for no reason, although, I don't suppose they would care...

To be honest, the only ones up in arms would be those BlackBerry users looking for that final reason to go Apple. I can guarantee 90% of iPhone owners don't care about BBM. Cause 100% of my iPhone owning friends don't care, and sadly there are lots.
