    Last week bbm was the 2nd most downloaded app in the app store and this week it is 45th. Does it mean anything. Even WhatsApp is ranked higher!!

    13th on overall top free chart on the Google Play Store, 3rd on the Top Free Communication chart, behind WhatsApp and Skype.
    5th on the overall iTunes chart, 1st on the Social Networking Top Free Apps.

    I don't know where you live, but obviously the people there don't know how to use their phones properly if they they're not using bbm.

    Uuggghhh, this society disgusts me when i hear people aren't downloading bbm! And, whatsapp has been available for so much longer.

    I assume you mean the US -- yeah. Well it was near the top for almost a couple of weeks. No small feat to achieve for a supposedly "dead in the US" brand.

    Considering how many apps are in the app store that's still awesome.
    It's #50 in the App Store right now and we know how many apps Apple has, so still after all this time that pretty darn good.

    I know, but many don't even know it exists. I had to get my sister to download it (because she didn't know what it was). She used it fine. Until yesterday when she tells me she doesn't get how to use it! What's not to get. You've been using it the last week! Everything is so user friendly!

    An overwhelming number of people downloaded it in the first two weeks. Those were the people who really really wanted it bad. Now that those people are using it, it will spread a little more slowly, but virally as people coax the less eager into using it.

    Pretty sure the novelty has worn off. Of the people in my circle who've downloaded, no one is actually using it.

    Would be interesting to know of the 20 million odd downloads, how many actually use it?

    It wasn't 20 million downloads, but 20 million new, active users. The download number was probably a lot more considering 10 million downloaded it in the first day. 2 of my friends downloaded it, didn't see much point to it and deleted it. Ofcourse, I know more than 2 people that downloaded it, but I suspect this is the case for quite a few people.

    Regardless of these stats, my suggested contacts have blooooown up this week. I've checked it frequently since launch with only a handful of contacts appearing until dozens more this week.

    Novelty remains to be seen... people love bbm, so certainly some of the 20 million will engage and continue using it.

    The hype faded fast, It's not going to be easy for BBM, after all. Downloads are high only in countries where BlackBerry have good market share, the rest of the world pretty much forgot about BBM.

    BlackBerry: release VOIP over BBM and see the app soar high on the charts again. Then when the app starts to gall on the chart, release video over BBM and experience top placement on the charts. Keep the new features coming soon.

    We can talk a lot about it, but that doesn't increase downloads or usage. I suppose BlackBerry has to invest big money in marketing if they really believe in the app as a business.
