Neither will work without a BlackBerry data plan. BB Messenger uses PIN to PIN messages but keeps it in an instant message form, PIN messages outside of that are like text messages.
Thanks.. so if I sent a PIN message to you, would that me just like a SMS message? I currently have a 200 text msg plan with AT&T... I guess I could just send a text message then hugh?
If you don't buy a bb data plan, your better off not having a blackberry, since the features you have access to are the same as cheap, basic phones.

BB Messenger and PIN messages don't count as part of you SMS text message limit.
