    Hello.

I'm new to this forum and new to blackberry. It's my birthday in a few weeks time, and I'm thinking from upgrading from my HTC Hero to BB 9900. However I'm thinking of getting a contract, and seeing what I need and things you know with minutes and texts and internet.

However, yesterday the person who was working at Phones 4 U told me that blackberry has their own internet service? They compress it to a 3rd so instead of 250mb you really get 750mb? Is that true?

I don't know what to think, not sure if she is having me on and making me get a blackberry because she wants commission etc etc. But I talked to two of them there, where one couldn't really convince me and they were saying how one has the whole family using blackberry because it's easy to use and things, like that.

Um, sorry it's long. hope this is in the right place, I'm not too sure. I tried searching and couldn't see anything.

    Thanks in advances anyways.

Yes blackberries compress data(not quite sure if its to the exact numbers they told you), but you will get more use out of your data plan then any other phone. Blackberries also have their own internet plan called BIS(blackberry internet service). Basically what this means is your data runs through RIMs servers and compresses it. BIS costs the same as any other normal data plan, least here in the states it does. you do not need a normal data plan in addition to BIS, BIS is your data plan.

Welcome to crackberry (and maybe to blackberry).

I don't really know what your question is right now.
Do you only want to know about the blackberry data plan or do you also seek advice to buy one or not?

I can tell you that it is true that Blackberry has it own internet service, and they also compress it. I have 200 Mb per month, and it is (way) more than enough!

Sorry It was about the blackberry data plan. I'm not too sure what to go for. I was thinking of 500mb but maybe that's too much now ?

That depends of what you want to do with your phone. If you constantly watch youtube it will be way to few.
But I you only receive mails, BBM, check facebook, browse a little, I think 500 Mb is more then enough.
Maybe you should ask advice to the person that works at Phone 4 U. Tell him what you are planning to do with it, and ask him what he thinks is right?

I use my phone data intensivly and yet I never go past 1.2 GB on an unlimited plan lol I have some friends with Androids who use their phones less then me who use 1.2gb+ and they really don't use their phones for much.

I tethered my bb to my computer yesterday and surfed around a little yet when I disconnected its said I only used about 7mb. I was surprised.

It's gonna be great when I have to upgrade and switch to Verizon's 2 gb tiered plan

I tether 5 days a week and probably an average of 4.5 hours a day and the most I've used was a little over 1gb. Now I do not stream or download much. Mostly surfing, chat rooms and IMing.
