Did you format it? Or does it not even show up as present?

    OS?
I thought older OS could only read up to a particular amount of memory.

Unless he's running OS 4.5.x.x.xxx the OS will only recognize 4GB on a 8GB card.

I had this happen to a customer...I just gave her a different memory card and it worked fine. so I would guess it might be something with your memory card, rather than your phone.

Kronk did not post misinformation. There was never an OS
4.3 for the 8310 (the phone the OP has) . It went straight from
    4.2 (max 4gb) to 4.5 (max 8gb below .81, max 16gb .81 and above),
so the answer he provided is totally correct

    Supported Media Card Types

How did the curve skip 4.3 and the pearl didn't. Weird I figured they made the OS updates on all BB, so graceless is it true what I hear about the Bold OS supporting a 32GB card that would be sweet.

I don't remember there ever being a serious 4.3 contender for the GSM Pearls or
Curve. There were a few Betas but when 4.5 became a reality they were pretty
    much abandoned.

As to the Bold, yes it can, according to that chart. It has the required OS.

If you are not on OS 4.5 I believe your answer was in post #7. But you never
did say what OS you are on.

If the device is showing that you have 3.3GB available then it is recognizing the card. More info is needed to really help you out.

What OS are you running? What brand is the card? How are you attempting to transfer the files? Have you tried a different card? Have you tried a battery pull?

The more info we have, the easier it is to help you.

I had the same issue with my 8130 not recognizing my 8 gig card. Worked fine for weeks, then the phone no longer saw it. I tried re-seating it many times and tried different media cards. I finally took the battery out. Re-booted the phone and inserted the card. There it was. I did need to put my screen picture back on -
