I heard Kevin say that T-Mo was getting 3G BB 10 phones in early 2012 on the Mobile Nations 12: 2011 Year in Review. Is this true? Will they be AWS 1700 phones or will they run on ATT network as well? Either way I would get one to hold me over until the 4G BB 10 phones are released later in the year.

At the 1:06 mark of the podcast.

He's talking about the 3G version not the 4G version later in the year.

Possibly. According to RIMs earnings call the big delay on BB10 devices seems to be due to them waiting for the new LTE integrated processor that won't be coming out till the middle of 2012.

I haven't listened to the podcast, but if there is a 3G only version coming out before that then that's awesome.

    Yeah that was odd...

He says: "this just in - BlackBerry to release 3G BlackBerry 10 superphones to T-Mobile early in 2012".

Unless he spilled something he wasn't suppose to, misread some wrong info or was joking around who knows.

Why isn't this headlines if this true?

Highly doubt it, QNX is giving them major issues and the Playbook is still missing essential features. There is no way they will have BB10 phones in early 2012 if they are even released at all, RIM may be bought out by another corporation due to crashing stock prices.

Earnings call was last Thursday. If this were true they would have been trumpeting it from rooftops at that time.

I didn't listen to the podcast, but perhaps he means a 3G playbook? Because the 2.0 software should be ready in that timeline and them releasing a cellular connected playbook has always been in the cards.

It makes total sense to me. ATT and Sprint have 4G networks. T-Mo doesn't. Now that the ATT T-Mo merger is axed T-Mo needs phones for their network. It would also mean that BB 10 are almost ready for release. They had to have evaluated them and liked them. This would be awesome news for Rim.

Yeah, I heard the same thing during the live broadcast. I was just barely listening and I knew he said it because that's what caught me by surprise. However, there's nowhere else I could find the information. It could be true as it makes a lot of sense to do this. I just wish we could get some solid clarification.

For it to be correct... change it to 2013.

Kevin must have been confused. If it were true, he would have posted something on the main page. A BB10 Phone anytime soon would be HUGE news.

The LTE radio must not be all that is holding them back. I mean, RIM could theoretically release an LTE device sooner, just not with the integrated modem. Just release it in North America where they are bleeding most, knowing the battery life will be no better than the other current 4G phones. Make it a big slab of glass -- fast, nice screen, etc. Just a single model, on a few carriers. A direct answer to what else is on the market now.

But they are not. So there's more to the delay I believe.

I think CrackBerry Kevin accidentally announced something he wasn't suppose to OR he misread the information during the filming of the podcast.

He specifically said "BlackBerry to release 3G BlackBerry 10 superphones to T-Mobile early in 2012" while reading something off his screen.

He seemed really sure and happy about whatever he was reading. The others reacted excited as well. I don't think this is a mistake.

Could this be a marketing technique? "Underpromise and overdeliver"? It makes sense, as T-Mobile has an HSPA+ network and isn't currently pushing 4G LTE like the other three big American carriers. Maybe we will actually see an announcement at CES with some devices present. Maybe this was inside information from RIM? I can't find this information anywhere else. Of course, this is all still speculation.

If this is new news, there must be a reason it's not a featured story on the front page.

This is what RIM needs to do. HSPA+ dual core SoC's are mature and efficient. LTE is not. To keep BB10 from the market just because of LTE Chipsets is dumb. I hope this news is right as it would get the OS and phones out there for people to see what's coming. T-Mobile doesn't have the iPhone, and with the AT&T deal fall through they need something to differentiate them and everyone has Android and iPhone now. I would like to see clarification from Kevin.

It's the norm at RIM to delay everything. Don't expect t-mobile getting any next gen phones until early 2013.

I'm not expecting the new phones in early 2012 at all. Sadly so.
