Its like when ur computer installs new programs and it requests to be restarted and after u restart everything is running smoothly... that's what a battery pull does to ur Berry. U'll find too that ur memory will increase a little. There's an App u can find in the App store called "QuickPull" that simulates a battery pull too... and it's free!

What if your phone completely freezes? For the first time ever in my BB "career" I've had one freeze on me. First. Time. EVER. And it was my Curve, not even my Storm!

The reason we say to do a battery pull is because it is more reliable than quickpull. Quickpull will work in most situations but not in all situations. Also, nothing can replicate removing the power source from the device and sometimes that is necessary for electronics.

The phone needs to be on when doing a battery pull.

So alt + shift + del is not as effective as an actual battery pull? That is what I usually do so I don't have to remove case...

Quickpull does the exact same thing alt + shift + del. While this works most of the times, the bottom line is that nothing can replicate physically removing the battery from the phone and that is the best option.

alt + shift + del is a "soft reboot" similar to restarting a computer while taking the battery out is a "hard reboot" and is like unplugging your computer from the wall.

alt + shift + del simulates it without having to physically pull the battery or needing "Quickpull" ?
Thank you! I never knew that.

Unless your phone completely freezes, a battery pull or any other
kind of reset is completely meaningless as far as it's operation
    is concerned.

I am so tired of seeing this truly bad info continue
to be posted as if it is some kind of "silver bullet" or thing that
needs to be done regularly. My Curve has not been reset in
over 135 days. Guess what? It functions just fine, even at
    less than 5mb free.

Makes no difference. 5mb is the minimum amount of memory to
run multimedia, which is why it is an option in Media and nowhere else.

People still post that you need 12,xxx,xxx for the device to function
properly. Some are now posting 5,xxx,xxx. Both are related to
    multimedia AND NOTHING ELSE.

Just to add my .02 cents (more like nothing) to this thread, despite the contrary, I do a battery pull once a day just for the heck of it.
