I see a lot of posts and advice involving battery pulling... and when I had my first BBRY, a Curve 9330, I did some battery pulling myself whenever I felt it would fix whatever may have been wrong at the time.. When I got my Curve 9350 I did some internet digging and stumbled upon some tips about it, and discovered pushing "alt" + (shift) + "del" would actually do a full power off and restart of the device without the potentially harmful effects that can be induced by battery pulling. Is this something other Blackberry users employ? Is this feature available in BB10 phones in some other form or combination of actions ??

Well some people are debating whether the reset initiated by pressing and holding both volume rockers (on all BB10 devices excluding the STL100-1) is the same as a battery pull

Right now the Volume UP & DOWN keys pressed and held (and taking a screen shot) will eventually reboot your device. Is it the same as a battery pull? .... It works for me. Have not needed to pull my Z10's battery but once.

Don't know about the os 10, but when I had the 9900, 9700...etc. and I'd call att for support they'd say to pull the battery out for a hard reset all the time. Don't know if they do that on these newer ones though.

The same as battery pulling in terms of potential to cause harm to the device ?

In some way battery pulling on any technological device seems equivalent to just holing down the power button on a laptop, as opposed to actually setting it to shut down or restart.. I've heard it can damage both the hardware (the discs or w/e of traditional laptops) and the internal software functioning to abruptly be disconnected from power that way

Press power button until the BlackBerry logo shows up for the SECOND time.

It will show up... then go away... red light comes on... then BlackBerry logo comes back and voila!

If you're looking or the equivalent of a battery pull you should press the top power button and select restart.
That will provide the red LED which usually indicates a full power disconnection.
The volume rocker method does not provide this.

I personally do not pull the physical battery as I do not want to "shock" my device's system.
However, I remember when the talk of BB10 first started, everyone was so excited that restarts and battery pulls would no longer be necessary for the QNX system. Now with every tech issue posted, the second post asks "Did you restart your device?"

Never had a crash/freeze on my z10 and the same now for my z30, which is much superior to the z10.

Do you ever worry that battery pulling will cause damage to the phone's functionality, in the long run if nothing else? It sounds like the double press of the volume rocker will restart BB10 devices, why not use that instead? just curious..

I used to do a battery pull on my Bold 9930 about once a month. I stopped and started to use alt+shift+del once I learned about it a couple of years ago. I upgraded to a Q10 a month ago and have not had the need to do a battery pull or alt+shift+del reset, not once. The Q10 is a great phone and a best buy.

So I'm just curious, when people post all of these methods....how Do they come up with all of these options? Do they read it somewhere? Spend hours on the phone dissecting it? Just wondering.....lol

LOL!! oh okay.. thanks! lol I didn't know that.. I'm honestly not too familiar w/ the BB10 devices. I've been working to learn more about them though.. that's interesting. I wonder will the Q20/Classic have a removable battery .. if i ever switched to BB10, which wld b hard as i LOVE the form factor of my current device, it would definitely be to another qwerty
