I have read about the hard reset and soft reset. Could someone please clarify, if in fact doing either one of these erases anything from your phone?

If it works like it's supposed to (and it does about 9999 / 10000, then neither the battery pull nor the soft reset will cause you to lose data. Once, I told a user to pull her battery and it corrupted her OS, resulting in her losing her data. Normally both procedures cause you to regain memory that was lost to apps that didn't release their memory properly when they ended.
