If enough people ask, they might consider to unlock the hardware and let us install Cynogenmod on it, tweet the following message to them in mass:

@BlackBerry @BlackBerryDev Give our Playbooks a second life, please unlock the hardware and let us Cynogenmod intall #saveplaybook

We've been through this before. This is not happening as long as the device is not at end of life yet.
There are some companies that actually still use the device

I don't want Android for mine, just a nice spring cleaning update that cleans up some of the sloppier coding and gives me an extra bell or whistle.

What is the obsession with Android with some people? From the forums it's either panacea to all of BlackBerry's problems, or a malware infected mess.

    Never going to happen, pointless.

Additionally, the forum doesn't need a return of all that previous root/jtag nonsense.

No way. The rock solid security (full device encryption, non-rootable) of the device is its only remaining unique feature. (besides legacy bridge)

Agreed, for a few days... until it became ever increasingly irritating!

Never ceases to amaze me how little people know on this subject.... It is impossible to boot a different OS on a Playbook as it uses an encrypted rom built into the device for booting your OS... you would need to physically figure out how to remove it and replace it with a rom that would play nice with the Playbook... heck.... with how cheap mini tablets are... why would you want to... remembered all the "fun" I had installing and trying to get cyomodgen Android OS to work on my HP WebOS tablet.... too frustrating to even bother...

Not worth the cost of the tweet. Even if they did "unlock" it, you'd still be many steps away from loading Android. Then you'll be back here asking us to tweet at the "Cynogenmod" people to make a version that would work on the PB...

What the OP is saying is that the PlayBook is a useless POS.
