The US case Apple vs. Samsung over patents has been decided. Apple has over-whelmingly won.

Not a surprise. American jury took very little time to decide, and how obvious is was going to favor their American company. It is funny how in Korea they decided at least partially in favor of Samsung.

Now as much as I can't stand Apple, and I can't stand Samsung even more, the whole case still seems very troubling. And I am worried about implications for RIM.

Much of the patent fight involved user interface and some design. Some could argue these preceded both parties or are just so plainly obvious as part of a touch-interface as to not be patentable.

So what does that mean for RIM and future interface and design? Are they at any risk? Are they a target or not at this time due to their market position? Or conversely, do they see a need to sue others and would they be as aggressive as Apple?
