The BB8520 is seen in every 5th users hand. And the 9700 in every 50th persons hand.:-) ( Stats. are hypothetical :-))
Whether or not they subscribe to a data plan is a secondary issue, but having the BB is the latest 'in' thing.
And the basic BB unlimited email + messenger plan costs USD 8 /month, so its quite affordable to people who can buy the 8520.
BB publicity,advertising and marketing has also increased over the last 1 year, with every TV channel airing BB commercials.

I may purchase and Iphone 3GS or 4 in the near future just to have a RIM and Apple Phone.
I may just buy the Iphone 4 to run it over a thousand times for the fun of it.
