Apple appears to have effectively canceled autonomous-car development after firing 200 employees assigned to its Project Titan, the team that was supposed to beat Waymo and other tech suppliers in the race to self-driving software.

Apple killing it is actually potentially bad for QNX, not the reverse. A lot of the underpinnings used by Apple potentially could have been based on QNX technology with Apple adding their own elements.

Just like how CarPlay utilizes QNX technology in order to run. While it's a bit of a stretch to say No QNX = No CarPlay, because it can run on other systems, it doesn't change the fact that many are using QNX bases to run CarPlay.

Of course, I say potentially because no one really knows how deep Apple was going but QNX is already so embedded in vehicles today, Apple would have at least had to build out a caompability/connectivity layer.

In any case, it's probably not cause for celebration all things considered, as things are still 'early' and Apple could be an even greater partner for QNX than they already are. Too many people look at the compettitive side vs. the collaborative side and QNX by nature needs collaboration.

I feel much safer knowing a company that charges nearly $800 to replace the back of a phone, and is too cheap to include a single, is departing the self-driving race.

While self driving is coming.... I'm not sure how big it will be for any one company.

AI is really where Apple needs to invest more and it will have the bigger impact on future products. And they have clearly allow SIRI to fall far behind.
