Has anyone had any problems with the usb port coming loose on the blackberry pearl 8130? I can buy a new one from pdaparts.com for $5.99. It requires soldering. My brother and my dad can both solder pretty decent. If anyone has had any experience with this please let me know.

The soldering required is very small indeed. It requires surface mouint techniques and cannot be done with a soldering iron.

Same happened to mine.
I called around locally for someone to replace mine and nobody will. (Called computer shops).
Wish I'd known it was possible. I had a white pearl which was discontinued. There were no other issues with the phone and I'd love to still be using it as a backup ... or when it matches my outfit a little better. Gawd I'm such a girl.
Nah, I'll stick with the bold.
i think that bb repair shop is the only one that would even attempt it... ive looked inside, and soldering is scarry

Thanks for the input guys! I will check into the repair shop. My brother although went to college for stuff in the communications field and learned about it, he and also my father who has worked on lots of electronics boards and such think they can handle it, but if all else fails we can claim an insurance replacement. I wish alltel would come out with the 8220 so wifey could have that one instead!

Unless you have the right (read expen$ive) equipment and the specialized knowledge soldering anything on surface mount boards is only asking for trouble. Most of the boards are micro-layered and you will end up smoking something.
I am very good at soldering. I do it a lot and have done so for decades. I have all the gear for conventional work but not for surface mout work. I tried on an old 8100 to replace the USB port and failed miserably. As trucky says, you need a specialist repiar shop like I posted above to carry out this work.
Thanks you guys for the heads up! Just as a coincedence the wifeys software went haywire and they sent her a warranty replacement! So no more worries.....woohoo
