This tread is over 2 year old, that being said a BlackBerry don't need one but from the time I had amazon app store I downloaded one that's was before 10.3 but still use it up to today. I use Bitdefender I think. And I also been on BlackBerry since the original pearl and never had a virus. If memory serves. Bb automatically scans and tell u if a app you downloaded contained anything and plus anytime u reboot BlackBerry does a security check list to see if your device is compromised. So rest assured your phone is pretty secured as is. Just lay off the porn hubs for a while because u never known lol jks

It's been replaced the NSA Can sneak into a BlackBerry by way of wi-fi and so if they can do it the weirdos can do it too.

This is why I carry my Classic wrapped in foil using an anti-static bag for a pouch. I don't get many calls but I have a metal bucket to cover my head when I do get one. No snooping here...

I also covered my roof with mirrors, I don't trust those satellites or drones.

I had to leave my wife because she kept opening the curtains in the morning. I told her that Google car was photographing and x-raying the inside of our house which the government could see via their maps. She laughed, but whose laughing now...?

Those are false reports. You wanna see if that thing works download a virus test file they have about 3 different kinds in the Google store.
Download it to an android then copy it then send it to your blackberry by way of email.
I can almost guarantee you that no antiviral product that you have on hand phone will detect it and the built in BlackBerry scanner has flaws it will sometimes miss scanning apks and even if it did scan the fake file it will more than likely ignore it that is if your email provider will allow you to forward it to yourself.
You can copy it to your card but you won't be able to install it. Your antiviral product will detect it is about all that will happen.

I'm no expert, but I thought the virus had to give instructions to the OS. IOW, a virus mad for Windows would be no threat to a Mac.

I can't imagine someone investing time to code a virus for BB since it would be minimal spread (so few users) so the biggest threat would be via Android. I am sure BB considered that when they opened their OS to Android. I'm not positive, but i would assume with their security standards they accounted for that.

I think the Android apps that run on BB10 are sandboxed so that they can't do any damage.

A bad app can steal your info (like the flashlight app that wanted access to your contacts, or many free games), but they can't damage the OS.

However, if a macro virus hides in a spreadsheet that you downloaded to your BlackBerry, backed up to the cloud and opened on your desktop, I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to pass through all these points.

Such a virus wouldn't activate on the BlackBerry, wouldn't do any damage to the phone or your ability to use and edit that spreadsheet, but it wouldn't be quarantined or eliminated either. But is it BlackBerry's responsibility to detect and eliminate such viruses?

Well yes and no. They built the phone claiming security is number one and so I believe they would be on the hook.
I have yet to see or hear of a virus that could do that on a BlackBerry OS I'm sure if it ever happened the media would jump all over it.
Hell the media would probably have built one just for headlines by now! Lol!!!
