Searched and found mixed non specific results. If I leave my gps ON but do not open any gps utilizing programs, will my battery drain faster? Clearly using gps on w gps progs running will drain.

It will not drain the battery unless program calls for it. But you need to watch certain programs, for example Weatherbug, which will activate your GPS unless you set it not to.
I run the GPS function on BerryWeather with 30 minute updates and my battery last 36 to 48 hours on a full charge.
Exactly, you just have to be aware of what might call on the GPS and set it accordingly. Every 30 min is a good choice, whereas I myself set Weatherbug to never use GPS. But that is because I am boring and never go anywhere.
