I remember that many of us said that we didn't want to see BlackBerry going the Android route like Samsung and HTC decided to do. However, seeing the development and news of Android port apps I begin to wonder as to what the future will hold for BlackBerry users. As a proud BB10 user I want to see native apps of programs such as Skype, WhatsApp etc. coming to BB10 using all of the neat features available to the framework. As I'm not a programmer please excuse if I can list those.

However, based on recent observations that known apps will or could most likely be Android ports I fear that we will have some sort of Android reloaded. Yes BB10 would be running but what's the point if, provocatively speaking most of the apps are Android? What's the point of using BB10 then? I know and am very well aware of the fact that this is quite provocative but isn't it true? I want to have native applications on my device and not some Android port applications. If it turns out that Android apps will be predominantely used on the BB10 pleatform then why did one bother and developed BB10 with its awesome abilities?

I implore all developers out there. Please develop your apps for BB10 natively like you would for iOS, WP8 and Android. BB10 offers a magnificent platform. We users would like to see native apps on our BB10 devices. Thank you.

This won't happen for a bit. With develpors, it comes down to money, even for "free" apps. Until they see that there is a market and money making potental, they won't. What we need to do is download apps and show them that there is a market for it. Even if you don't use them and just delete them when they are installed.

I agree with the OP. Whilst the idea of downloading the Android port may show developers we are keen to use their apps is sound. They have to appreciate that most of these ports do not provide the user experience on the BB10 platform. Surely the excuse that blackberry is difficult to develop for is no longer valid.

My sentiments exact crisdean if they keep engouring these ports might as well tell peopel to go buy a cyborg device.BB should just rebuild the app if they dont want to build it. Once release hold them to ransom for data.

It all comes down to money. If there is money in it, the developers will come. Interest equals money.

The benefit is that you get a far superior operating system that can do exactly what Android does because in theory it can run all android apps (all is a maybe for the long term).

To boot, you get native apps and a web browser that doesn't suck. Ya, I hate every browser I ever tried on my Droid 3. Because they suck.

If the app works well most folks won't even know its a port of an android app. I wouldn't care if its a port and it works as advertised. There are native apps that work like crap. Its all about the user experience.

In the short term, the Android emulator was a necessary evil and a smart strategic decision. Eventually the native apps will come as long as BB10 devices continue to ship and move sales figures in the right direction. In the long term, I think QNX and the BB10 OS is going to change the functionality of Applications.

How exactly is it far superior? All I hear is that it is version 1.0 and they'll eventually figure it out. All the browsers that I use on Jellybean don't seem to "suck" and what in the world is Droid 3? Never heard of that phone. You obviously hate Android and are making no sense. I'm pretty sure that it can't run all android apps and I've heard the ones that it can run are based on Gingerbread, which is about as current as a Blackberry 9700!

This has been suggested before and it really just depends on if your cup is half empty or half full. Until we see numbers we won't know if this helps or hinders bb10

The simple solution would have been for BlackBerry never to have an 'Android runtime', then all apps would have to be native.
I'm hoping with BB10.3 and up, the Android bits are purged from the OS.

Yes, the runtime is Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), by the time BlackBerry switch to 4.1, Google will have released 5.0.

and then that's when BlackBerry will start working on the 5.0 source code. But honestly what would be the point. El Goog doesn't have very man android devices running their latest JellyBean as it is... 5.0 will probably be even worse.
