Ok, after seeing all the raves on this site about Best Skins Ever, I went ahead and bought BSEs for my Pearl 8120 and my wife's 8110. Put them on last night, and noticed that 1) they leave an orange peel look to the screen that is very unsightly, 2) it feels like a layer of vinyl is on the screen (and that's because there is), 3) the screen is now sort of distorted (not really as clear as it used to be without the BSE on, and 4) when you roll the trackball up, you can feel the distinct leading edge of the BSE rub against your thumb.

Overall, I'm not really liking the BSE at all. I mean, I can't really blame BSE because the product is fine for what it is, but its just not as transparent and unnoticeable as I thought it would be. I was reading that you can hardly tell it's there, but that's not true. It is very apparent to me that a piece of vinyl is stuck to the screen. Oh well, maybe I'll keep it on for a while and see if I can live with it, but it's looking more and more likely that I'll just remove it and just use the pouch that the phone came with more often if I'm afraid of scratching the screen.

As I did with my LG VX9440 I simply trimmed down a spare Nintendo DS screen cover and slapped it on my Curve. Works perfectly.

I tried Invisible Shield last year and it sucked...Even a day after letting it dry. Never again.

I can see where you are coming from on the "orange peel" look...I got that when I put one on my Pearl as well (but that was 1 out about 4 or 5). All of my others seemed fine. I ended up trying a Bodyguardz because it covered more. The screen cover from Bodyguardz doesn't seem as "soft" as the BSE, even though its all (supposedly) the same material. The Bodyguardz does seem really clear however. I've had nothing but good experiences with BSE, but I just ended up getting something that covered more around the screen and so on, you might give Bodyguardz or Invisible Shield a shot (as some on here swear by IS as well).

Thanks. I'll give the BSE a couple days on the phone, to see if I can get used to it. I mean, after all, it does protect the screen....just wish it looked a little more seamless.

I have the Invisible Shield which is supposedly very similar to BSE. I also have an otterbox so I can't really give much insight on the trackball issue that you are having. With the imperfections on the screen, I had a few the first day I put it on, there were some very unclear spots but after a day or so I guess it settled down a little and now its perfectly clear.

Works great on my Pearl and I can slip it in and out of my pants pocket without worrying about scratching up the screen. It is giving me an orange tint along the edges now, which I've never seen on the BSEs on my Zen.

The invisible shield works better IMO over the BSE. It is pricier, but it's worth it.

I feel/felt the same way about the IS, which is supposedly made of the same material as BSE. I didn't have the orange-peel affect on the screen---in fact, I kept the IS on the screen---but I took off the rest of it because I could feel the seams and it bothered the heck out of me. The IS covers the entire BB (I have the 8830), including the side rails, so there were a lot of seams.

After a few days I also saw that dust was starting to build-up a little at the seams; I don't keep my BB in my pocket, it's in a holster attached to my pocketbook (with screen facing in), so it's not around a lot of dust. I admit to being OCD about things like that, so after waiting 2 weeks to see if I could get used to it the relatively expensive IS came off.

I did keep the screen part of the IS on my BB and as you said, I can feel the lip of the IS when I use the trackball, but I like the protection for the screen. I'll probably change it at some point because I don't like the rubbing on my thumb.

    So no, you're not alone!

And I know all of the brands that make screen protectors probably have them cut within microns of each other, and I know that it could be some of my placement, but the Bodyguardz one I have on now is placed a little higher so the "thumb issue" isn't noticeable.

Thanks...good to know I'm not the only one. hehe. This would be so much easier if they just made the screen scratch proof in the first place.

The seams bothered me at first but I'd rather have the seams than a big ol' scratch on my baby!

And I found the first time I put it on that my placement had a lot to do with feeling it with my thumb...I repositioned it and it's been okay since.

Also, keep in mind that as the one who put them on- you're really sensitive to the seams/appearance. I sometimes feel it's really noticeable (like when the edges get dirty- I usually use a MagicEraser and just wet it and gently clean the edges to make them unnoticeable again) and I start contemplating taking it off...but when I show it to someone they can't believe there's something on there! I showed it to another berry fanatic the other day and he couldn't believe there was a skin on it till he looked really hard...

It's like having a zit you think everyone can see when it's not really that big.

I can see where you're coming from...but just give it a chance!

I also found that the edges/seams of the BSE can be cleaned one day when I was using a lens cleaning cloth. I think the cloth had mainly IPA on it, and it took off the gummy residue which was exposed at the seams. It also zipped off the pocket lint and such which had collected prior to that cleaning.

As for the "orange peel" texture on the screen, that is something which I have found happens when I am not aggressive enough at getting water out from under the skin. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not, but as I become more proficient at skinning I get better and better.

Regardless, you will still have a layer of vinyl on your screen, no matter how good you are. If this bothers you, just peel the skin off your screen and put on a regular screen protector.

If you can't tell, I'm a big fan of skins. They've saved me from more than one scrape, and I also love the grip they give to the device.

    To each their own!

    Eric
