I know! Wish Thor would stop saying it!
If Mike L has anything to do with the company again then you can bet anything it's game over for sure. Secondly, if you feel like dying because a tech company is going under then you need serious help. This is how this game gets played. BlackBerry isn't the first giant to collapse.
Ah. So Mike Lazaridis is considering a buy bid for a company that isn't for sale. Got it.
Jerale, how can he buy his company back when it "isn't for sale"?

I'd get a clue if it isn't too expensive, like BlackBerry BB10 phones at launch. badabing!
Stock down another 3% in pre-market trading.
Remain calm, all is well.
You think this is bad? Wait until the official "earnings" announcement.
The rose colored glasses broke a long time ago. Clues came out then.
OP, it isn't the company is not up for sale. It's the company is unsellable. BBRY might be in a position of a actual take-under, a scenario when potential buyers are only willing to pay LESS than the current market cap as shown by stock price. What's a potential buyer got to lose? He waits a little longer, price drops more, waits longer yet, drops even more.... Not that I'm saying there's a potential buyer on the horizon, only a glutton for punishment would take on this comedy of errors.
YEAH YOU PEOPLE!!!!! YOU!!!!!!

In any situation of great stress, in large groups of people there will be those who simply snap under the pressure and lash out. If they can't hurt others, just try to insure they don't hurt themselves.
That stress could be a war, death of a loved one, seriousness illness.......or in some cases....um.....your favorite phone corporation in trouble......
OP, what's happening is ugly, and there are a lot of huge BB fans here who are very sad and upset. Most are talking about it, and coming to terms with it, a few are still i(somehow....have to marvel at human delusion) in denial mode, but at least they're putting on their big boy/girl pants and talking about it like adults.
Those that just lash out at the other posters, like it's their fault (let alone those who actually literally try to blame it on the other posters!) aren't helping, BB, CB, or anyone else. They're making it worse.....it would actually be the best way to troll and stir things up right now (as I suspect some have intuited)- if you don't want to hear from other posters, and if you can only tolerate opinions that match your own, then you're right, a discussion forum isn't a good place for you.
Unreal pessimism here... the write down was 1 billion but the drop in cash was 300 million. they also didn't recognize revenue on over 2 million phones that were shipped ( they changed their accounting practice in order to throw all the negatives into the quarter and get them out of the way). They also added 150 BES 10 server deployments EVERY business day. They'll make handsets and they'll downsize to profitability. My bet is within 2 quarters they are making decent money. From there all the doomsayers can eat crow and decide if they like the devices and services that BlackBerry makes available. Has no one in these forums followed changes in the car industry, computer hardware industry etc? This is ongoing and is not always an "all or nothing" event.

It doesn't matter. A write down means drop in the value of assets, meaning the value of the company has dropped. Cash is also an asset. Whether your cash holdings drop, or the value of your inventory drops, it's all the same in relation to net value/worth. If you own stock in BBRY and the price drops, but the amount of cash in your bank account is the same, are you really going to say you didn't lose anything, or are you going to say you lost $X because the value of your stock portfolio (also an asset) dropped? Any sane person would say the latter.
As an example, let's take Apple. Let's say Apple has 10 million iPhones in inventory. The value of that inventory is about $6 billion since the ASP for an iPhone is about $600. That $6 billion is as good as cash, since Apple will sell every single one of those iPhones at the ASP and when you do a valuation for Apple, you include that inventory at that valuation. Now you have BlackBerry with an inventory of Z10s, the value of which has dropped by almost $1 billion. That means the value of BlackBerry has dropped by $1 billion.
I rarely post anymore, but when I do, I drink Dos Equi.
Stay thirsty my friend.
More dots to connect.
BlackBerry plans to go private - Sep. 23, 2013
Note the comments on the consumer market. Also obviously on the sale itself. The dots are not vary far apart now.
Be calm. Relax. You are really harshing my mellow. I am sure you come here to CrackBerry for your love of BlackBerry. Yet, I only see posts like this one from you. It is your opinion. That is fine. However, I think your post is a bit presumptuous. It is not over until it is over. If BlackBerry is sold off into numerous different pieces, then okay, it is sold off and truly dead. But, until that time comes, I am happily rocking my Z10. I am not sure why you think the app situation will not improve. And again, perhaps it won't. Yet again, I am holding out hope that it will. At the end of the day, I appreciate your passionate posts on CrackBerry, but I find my myself disagreeing with most of them. Keep it up, though. I always like to ponder and reply to such posts. Makes CB very lively.
Me depressed...? Nope! I'm sportin' an almost brand new Fairfax Z10...!
Haha yes! At least breaking bad is having a good year. Thorstein "I still have things left to do" lol

Here's a clue for you!
Apple made more money this weekend than BlackBerry will sell for | ZDNet
All evidence of Blackberry's demise indicates that the doomsayers were the only ones who actually had a clue all along. All you BlackBerry doomsayers need to get a clue
Wonder what this guy is saying today....

And this one ?

To be honest, that (the last sentence) is pretty pathetic.
It made me pretty sad. It isn't the only post that has. The thing is that there are at least three groups of people here, and in some cases people are in more than one of those groups. One are people who use the phones, then there are stockholders and finally employees. I just use the phone so I have the least in this by far. I can see how stockholders and employees can be really impacted by this. I've been in both situations myself. We ate thousands of shares (probably upwards of 10,000) of LEH a few years back. I have managed in the ensuing time to wipe the exact number completely out of my mind. A defense mechanism ;) I do hope that those getting so worked up about this are at least not simply phone users/owners. It is just a phone for us.
