BlackBerry should start offering free BlackBerry dot com email services (similar to the ones being offer by Google or Microsoft) for all current BlackBerry users. Then, build stuff around it with BB10 since they have control over these services. This should better than what being offered by Yahoo, Google, or Microsoft. For a start it could be simple as first then build more features as time goes.

    What do you all think?

I disagree. I would never want an e-mail that's tied to a device. Or an ISP, for that matter.

What WOULD be a great idea is if they offered hosted Exchange accounts to the public, for a fee, but make them free for BB users.

No interest here. What would you do if you left bb? Yes just change but that's a hassle when you can just keep using the addy no matter what product you use.

I used to have one of the BIS @blackberry.com addresses...would be cool if I could sync it to my new device just to rep BB lol.

BB10 should still work with existing email services. If BlackBerry doesn't have the resources to offer BlackBerry email account to everyone at first, they could start with existing BlackBerry users. BlackBerry email account doesn't have to tight to a device or pin. You can keep your existing BlackBerry email even if you change to another platform.

I had the @carrier.blackberry.com address. One day my phone crashed and after reinstalled the OS for some reason I couldn't set it up on my phone. The e-mail address seemed to be gone from the system, even tried from its web interface but no luck.

I was using it as one of main email address so I needed to get it back. Unfortunately, customer support was none existent, I got forwarded back and forth between carrier's and RIM support at end I lost it.

You get a job at Google. That email domain is reserved for Google employees.

But anyone can get a Gmail account.
