We are starting to get a little more info on what BlackBerry see's from QNX Cloud.
In Saunders own words, he says I see this appointment as not returning to my roots, but more of a continuation of the work I started over the last 20 years!!

I really like what they seem to be doing with QNX cloud.

I really don't like the appointment of Saunders to run this immediately after his failure at his last post. That does not send a good message at all, IMO.

I hope they make something really interesting out of this, despite the personalities involved.

is really about time BlackBerry gets started on this plan, Heins talked about it since BB10 was in its dev alpha stages , now Chen is forced to kick start the development

Alec is about the only senior guy at BlackBerry I've seen who can actually present on stage with personality.

He is a talented guy, I'm glad Chen has kept him but I feel it's a loss for BB10 that he's now working on QNX.

He failed big time, he went after app tonnage instead of getting the big names to the platform.

That was his job BD. Alec was supposed to go get the masses while Marty was tasked with the big names. Personally, I don't really get any hate toward Alec. He probably did the best he could with what he was given. Maybe Marty too for all I know.

No hate but somebody has to take the blame. I don't think Marty had anything to do with apps, wasn't he just marketing?

I think Saunders actually did a lot to undermine developer confidence and trust in BlackBerry. I also think he did a lot to reinforce the image of BB being an arrogant, and yet almost completely out of touch company.

I was hoping this was the type of BB executive Chen was moving away from. Anyway, perhaps the subject for another thread. I really do hope they pursue this cloud and IoT strategy well. It's a chance for them to do something really novel again.

Wish there was a BlackBerry Cloud Service.... this QNX Cloud sounds like it is more for industry.

Allow us to backup devices to BBCloud - settings, contacts, text, email, pictures with the option to buy more storage capacity.

That's because he was responsible for the tonnage and helping the little developers. Marty Mallick was responsible for the big names.

Every high tech company I've been in has debated this internally when a product isn't selling well.

The engineers proclaim that the product should be selling, but marketing sucks and sales is lazy

Marketing people proclaim that the product isn't selling because of bugs, issues, delays interrupting their launch and lack of product differentiation/competitive advantages ... and sales is lazy.

Sales people proclaim they can't sell the product because of bugs/issues/lack of differentiation and lack of support from marketing.

Reality: It's usually a combination. The only universal thing is that they all usually blame management for some aspect of their woes ... lack of resources put on the product; lack of money put into the marketing plan; lack of sales people to reach customers, spiff etc.
