Check out the blog from the main page:

AIM and ICQ Now Available on BlackBerry | CrackBerry.com

I downloaded AIM and so far I'm not impressed. Also from reading on BBF's, it appears that on T-Mobile users on 4.2 can use these as they are the only ones with the service books. I'll keep playing with it and post a better review later.

...does it use data or part of your sms package?

I've never been a 'lover' of IM for some reason, and in particular ICQ. Of course I use it, and in particular Pin Messenger, I love it. Why? Well, in order to use it, you have to be an elite member or a certain group - LOL

I'm going to assume that since it's coming from RIM that it uses your data package. It's essentially just like their release of GTalk and Yahoo Messenger.
