Saw a post today, for the new Acer "Z5"

    A "budget" 5 inch handset.

Retailing for $230 US - Off Contract.

Just found it humorous after all the 'Z5' rumours and "Leaks."

    Oh dang.

Other companies seem to be taking BlackBerry's naming convention. I saw a smiliar post earlier about a Q something I think.

A lot of electronic devices are called Letter-Number.

Nothing special about it! Would love that BlackBerry have used Bold, Curve, Torch and start with low digits again! The Q10 definitely feels like a BlackBerry Bold! The Q5 feels like a Curve. The first Torch was the 9800 and I think BlackBerry should have used this name for sliders only...

    Bold 10 = Q10
    Torch 10 = Z10
    Curve 10 = Q5
    Torch 30 = Z30

The naming convention for BB10 phones is different because they went away from the old "house of brands"-marketing and on to branded house.. In house of brands, if someone asks you what phone you are using you would say "im using a Bold 9900" or a curve or something like that.. With the branded house, if someone asks you the same question, you would say "BlackBerry Q10".. I think it was done for marketing purposes, if i recall correctly..

Good. I wouldn't want them to name it the z5. Such dumb names for phones

If it's the first of its class, it should be 1. Then 2. Then 3. Then 4. Then 4s..lol kidding about the last one.

This how the big guys do it. Let's go

Yes, it works. Simpleton marketing, but admittedly, it works. Maybe give it a try.

Yeah BlackBerry 10 device naming is very bland, especially from a marketing perspective. Since BlackBerry doesn't do any marketing, the naming at this point is the least of their concerns, but it will one day need to be addressed.

I prefer the location-based code names as a naming convention...Jakarta Ontario London etc

I think BlackBerry seem to have gotten the concept of naming phones wrong.

They saw that numbering phone models are in and decided to do that. What they didn't think about was that it made sense if you are naming your phone in a chronological order e.g. iPhone 1,2,3,4..5 or Galaxy Note 1, 2...

It does not make sense when you start jumping from 10 to 30. Or even the fact that you start from 10.

I still prefer the old way of referring to the models by unique names that gives them their own personality like bold, curve etc.

I mean, given the climate when they released BB10, they could have called the new series 'Brave'... that might have been more inspiring.. Ok, just joking.
