Is it just my bold or do they all take a bit long to lock on a signal, sometimes too long.
Storm 2 seemed a lot faster and held on to a signal a lot better.

Are you inside of building or outside when you do this???
for the 1st time you will take up to 20 mins to acquire signal from satellites... reason why is its locking them down and downloading packets to help acquire them faster the next time...
trust me, its fast once the 1st time... i just used mine again last night and it took 10 secs to get satellites...
and yes make sure you are out doors when doing all this... lol
Nope, I was outside and it happened a few times. I actually had to go to options to reset it and even then it took a while. And I also noticed it losing signal after it locked on. Must be just mine as the Storm was a lot better in this respect. I do have insurance tho so I might send for a new one.

I also had a Storm 2 before my Bold 9700. The storm 2 is way faster locating with gps. Storm 2 took me 10 seconds to find my location, bold 9700 takes me more than 5 minutes. Anyone knows how i can fix this? (I allready did the gps test at the status menu.)
Yeah, I remember the S2 easily getting a signal inside something the 9700 hasn't managed yet.

Mine takes a couple minutes, but it locates me indoors...
I had spotty-to-no signal the first couple of days I had this Bold. Did a battery pull and it acquired in 20 seconds tops. No idea if that's normal or not, though.

I also noticed that the GPS signal isn't as quick as my Cliq or G1 but I can manage to wait a few minutes. :)
As long as it's not just mine :) I can live with it then. I had to use it for navigating today and it wasn't the best experience but it got me there in the end :)

The GPS is only a very small piece of using some type of Mapping app like Blackberry Maps or GoogleMaps.... my GPS usually takes only a minute to pick up at least 6 satellites, and that is in my house, but using GoogleMaps while in the car is very fast, but some times in the country side it does take a while to download the actual maps themselves over my data plan over EDGE or something slower depending on the area and the coverage.
This has a lot to do with the Software on the device. I don't remember which software I had prior but it took anywhere from 1-5 minutes to acquire a satellite signal. Once I upgraded the phone to 5.0.0.656 it takes 10 - 30 seconds! Never loose connection.
This software 5.0.0.656 has the best connectivity I've seen thus far.
Yep, 656 seems to have solved this issues.

Poynt seems to find my location almost instantly every time whereas the actual GPS takes forever...
Most of the time it can't even find the satellite signals.
