My advice... get something newer. If you do get it... don't pay much for it. I don't know how many messages it will hold, and I don't even think it supports micro SD.. I could be wrong though

Why did you repeat your original post?

Here are the specifications of that device. It only has 32MB of memory. The device was released 5 years ago.

I don't think that anyone can tell you specifically how many text messages the device can hold. BlackBerry devices are not like that.

I hope that you are not paying more than $10 for it. And you would be wise to double check with your phone carrier before you get it to be sure that they will activate it on their network.

Yes but have you seen the keyboard on that? As a pure communication device is probably quite good. I bought a 8707 a while ago off ebay for �20 and the larger keyboard made me a lot faster at typing. 7250's is even bigger. I was quite surprised to find the file free memory was much bigger then the 8300s. I would say it will hold plenty sms but it will probably help to get into the habit of deleting the not important ones.

These phones are so cheap now on eBay, I can see why the OP might be interested in one for texting.

I got a 7290 as a back up cheap phone and the keyboard is very good, for just sitting down and grinding out message after message it's great and all the organisation features sill do a top job.

What carrier/network is the device branded for?

That device is a CDMA device. Nearly all CDMA networks will require that you have a BlackBerry Data Plan in order to have a BlackBerry activated on their network.

The maximum size of a single text message is 160 characters (bytes). There are 1,048,576 bytes in 1 Mb. You can save 6553 full sized text messages per 1 Mb of available space and up to 10 times that many if your average text message is only 16 characters.

I would guess, there is something like 10 Mb of free memory. That would be enough for over 655,300 small messages.

To me it sounds like this is going to be an SMS device which makes it a great low cost alternative to the newer and expensive devices. A good idea IMO.

This is only true if he can use it with a non-smartphone plan. I'm not sure about the other carriers, but if it's CDMA-only and he's on Verizon he will be required to get at least a $30/month BIS plan on top of what he's currently on. He could buy a regular cellphone for much less than the accumulated expense. It might be another carrier might work with him on it but Verizon is rather adamant on the BIS plans.

My AllTel-branded 8130 can't be activated on Verizon without a BIS plan, they do not allow it.

As far as I know, the 7250 is CDMA-only and does not have a SIM card.

I just called my seller, and he said that there indeed is a sim card slot. so i am hoping that it indeed will work. I am with the Rogers network in canada. is there any chance that this phone could have been made with a sim card slot?

You are looking for a 7210, 7230, 7280 or 7290 on Rogers. Edit note: These models use 16 Mb Flash Memory except the 7290 with a whopping huge 32 Mb.

Confirming the model number is pretty important. Tell the seller to use Options / About or find it on the sticker in the battery compartment.

Sounds like 7290 is the way to go, if I'm not mistaken, this model also has bluetooth. Plenty cheap on ebay, might just buy one myself while they're still out there.

Not true. BlackBerry Devices have always required a data plan on Verizon.
