Ya I personally think may / june sounds pretty realistic.

But will existing devices be able to run 6.1?
If so how many months will it be before carriers test and approve it for release to devices on their systems?
at least 2 years, if you're on verizon that is.
I don't think a full 6.1 OS will run on any smartphone under 1.2ghz processor speed, but from all that i've read, maybe 6.1 lite will for 800mghz.
Me too. that's usually when RIM does release thier new phones (not upgrades) Curve 8330 in early June '08, Bold 9650 late May '10...also if those of you (like me) who are eligible for an upgrade, and have Sprint, good news, Sprint has stopped (indefinatly) starting today, making you ante up $100.00 upfront for the mail-in rebate. Hopefully 2 things happen June 8th (my contract with Sprint ends) ONE the Bold Touch will already be availible AND the mail-in rebate waiver will still be going on :)
We can only hope! My 2yrs with T-MO have been up since last year. The Berry touch is definitely worth that upgrade!

Bold touch, torch 2, storm 3 all those phones are a viable upgrade for me, those or the iphone 5

About 6 to 8 months on Verizon, just in time for BB 7 phones release
I think the announcements in May or June are realistic.. But don't count on those devices being readily available at that time. Last years WES the Bold 9650 and Pearl 3Gwere announced alongside BlackBerry 6.. But look how long it took for BlackBerry 6 and the Pearl 3G to roll out.. The 9650 came in May but the Pearl 3G and BlackBerry 6 took forever.
If history repeats itself then we could be looking at some new device announcements, with one of those devices going to market shortly after announcement with the 6.1 updates and other devices slowly rolling out after.
That of course assumes they take a similar path this year which.. I hope they don't because now is not the time to be sitting on their butts when it comes to new smartphones. PlayBook is great and all but unless some new phones show up soon they're cutting themselves short.
The carriers probably will play a big role in the delay. I am certain RIM would like to roll out on all carriers after a big announcement at WES/BBW, however will the carrier testing be completed by the big 4 carriers at that time?
Tour July 2009
Storm October 2008
Storm2 October 2009
Torch August 2010
I can't see RIM waiting until September to release the Bold Touch or Monaco for that matter, they need somthing NEW and able to compete with an Android or iphone NOW, not until September. The Bold Touch will be thier flagship smartphone for 2011, the sooner it's released and hopefully lives up to the expectations of the 6.1 OS & 1.2 GHz...then RIM has footing to then release the Monaco with the Torch 2 not far behind, and later the Appolo/Sodona and Curve Touch. Again, I'm still seeing late May for the release of the Bold Touch :)
oh please no, i am keeping my fingers crossed on this. bold 2 has got to be in it!
I can see a mid to late May-early June release, especially to come up with a flagship phone to work in conjunction of the Playbook....
No unfortunatly, I don't. But seeing the GSM 2011 roadmap that has the Bold Touch due in late May-early June, and then the software roadmap that showed 6.1 update also in late May-early June, I'm with Sprint (yes I know it's a CDMA carrier) and the reps there have already been told that BlackBerry will be releasing a Touch or Touch-like device before the summer. And like I said previously, RIM as got to get a NEW smartphone out SOON (not just pushing Playbook) to stay in the game. So just speculating that BlackBerry World would just seem like common sense to introduce the Bold Touch and have it ready at the end of May.
