Besides that playbook is there going to be a 4G Blackberry? And is the torch going to be available for Tmobile or verizon?

I would imagine that the Torch will eventually get to TMobile, as it's a GSM based network. However, to work on the Verizon network we'll probably see a change in the number designation (like, to 9830).
If you're talking about T-Mobile's "4G", there are already 2 phones that do that (the 9300 and the 9780), but 4G as related to LTE phones should be coming out next year (atleast to Verizon).11-28-10 04:19 PMLike 0 -

No. The 9300 and 9780 are 3G devices. The 3G devices benefit from HSPA+ upgrade AT&T/T-Mobile performed on their towers (yes, AT&T upgraded most of theirs, they just don't advertise it as 4G like T-Mobile, sicne they're gong to deploy LTE next year), but they do not have HSPA+ radios in them.I would imagine that the Torch will eventually get to TMobile, as it's a GSM based network. Furthermore, all Blackberry Curve GSM phones have 3.6mbps HSDPA radios in them. The bold has a 7.2mbps radio in it, so it can benefit from teh HSPA+ upgrades, but the Curves won't benefit, because the radio doesn't really allow it to achieve any speeds that it could get on a normal 3G network (i.e. before the upgrade).
Vibrants are getting 6mbps+ download speeds on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, and I assume phones like the Bold 9780 can perhaps do the same if the other hardware can keep up (processor, etc.). I assume 3G devices with 7.2 or 14.4mbps radios on AT&T can achieve similar or faster speeds on their network.
Verizon is rolling out LTE now. Sprint is doing WiMax. T-Mobile is sticking to HSPA+ for a while. AT&T upgraded most of their network to HSPA+ and is rolling out LTE next year.
When I can do simultaneous Voice and Data, on Spring/Verizon, he CDMA networks will become more attractive to me.01-04-11 02:51 AMLike 0 -

Well, as of right now the Wiimax network has a tiny Footprint. And it may not be profitable to have a Sprint 4G BlackBerry. Even though I as a Sprint Customer would really like one, RIM may not take my desire for a 4G phone from them into account.
I would like to see them put out some intel on a 4G BlackBerry.

Yes, S. Korea, has been on 4G for a while now. As for China...they haven't really grasped 3G as of yet. So I'm not sure if they're on that level. Other Nations are progressing on 4G, but the US seems to have a firm initiative on getting 4G to the Masses.

Ummmm. Didn't RIM say no LTE until very late in 2011 or 2012? I don't think we can refer to HSPA as 4g. LTE is a stretch but at least folks are hitting 20-30 Mbps down on that with very low latency.

RIM want to ensure 4G gets popular, cheaper, and more battery-efficient before they start using 4G radios. Expect 2013-2014. As for Torch on Verizon, due to the heavy advertising and partnership with AT&T for it, I can safely say don't expect it. Ever. Period.02-19-11 03:01 PMLike 0 -

Sprint would have to request a phone specific for their network and provide the financial incentive to build it. There are very few markets that have 4G and RIM would rather sell phones that can be sold in the majority of their markets than make country specific devices on their own dime.
There are 900 carriers in the world and RIM sells products on over 600 of them. That's what they have to consider as a business.

RIM won't release anything 4G until it's widespread and reliable. Doesn't matter anyhow, because all data on your BB goes through RIM's turtle-slow servers, you'll still have the horrible data throughput, no matter what carrier you are on.Blacklatino likes this.02-21-11 08:34 AMLike 1 -

Someone I know works for sprint and he spoke of a rumored 4g bb this june. Whether or not it'll happen is beyond me. Just thought I'd pass on what I heard.

sprint seems to be the number 1 carrier for blackberries recently so i wouldnt doubt it would hit with them if it was coming this summer, otherwise t-mobile could also be a likely candidate for a 4G phone.02-21-11 07:40 PMLike 0 -
