Then why advertise that the phone can hold up to 2TB worth of storage on an SD. That's like saying your Honda can handle a jet engine if the engine could fit lol

2TB is the upper limit of current SDXC technology - that's the max space that can be addressed with the current design.

You may not remember, but hard drives went through the same type of thing, and there are many older devices that cannot natively understand hard drives more than 2TB in size, even though larger drives have been around for a while. Hell, FAT16, the format used for post-1984 DOS through the first versions of Win95 could only handle a max partition size of 2GB! Many consumer electronics devices from just a few years ago still won't read thumb drives larger than 2GB (TVs, AV receivers, and other things that get firmware updates via USB flash drive are good examples), which is why I still have a number of those relatively tiny drives around.

256 GB MicroSD cards are the largest currently available for consumers (with 512 GB already being tested), but in a couple of years, we'll get to 2TB, and then we'll have to wait for a replacement standard beyond SDXC to get any bigger - and we'll complain that new devices STILL don't have the new standard even though 4TB SD cards will exist. That's just how tech products work...

You may not be able to think of a need now, but some time in the future, yeah.

And it will be a few years and most likely something different than a micro SD card. The prototype card mentioned above is a full size SD card, and I don't know of any current phone that accepts those.

I bought my first PC in 1991. At that time, most of my friends who had a computer had 40 MB or (the ones with money) 80 MB hard drives. I spent $400 for a 213 MB for that PC - which my friends felt was completely extravagant and unnecessary. Several of them opined that I'd "never be able to fill it!"

That $400, "giant" hard drive is large enough to hold 2 average CD's worth of 320 kbs-encoded MP3s. If you owned a USB drive of that size, you'd probably toss it in the trash because its capacity is so small as to be nearly worthless.

    Things progress.

My 256GB microSD card is very close to being full of music right now. I'd have no trouble finding media to fill a 2TB card...

People Who records at 4K (3GB per minute), but probably 2TB Will mean nothing in 2020 (maybe before, Who knows), given than Samsung is pushing SUHD (8K, which should be like 6GB's per minute), probably the "boom" Will be 8K recording phones, or maybe even a higher resolution, well tech advances like a Ferrari at max speed every day

Until the difference in resolution is no longer noticeable, and they'll find something else to sell and push the envelope... :-D
