Just read the official quarterly press releases of RIM. Surprised to know that 100 millionth smartphone was shipped by RIM in June quarter of 2010 and the 200 millionth this September quarter 2012.

Of this vast base, there are 80 million active subscribers to BIS/BES services (so it is not BB ID count).

i think he is just mentioning there have been 200 million BB devices sold to date. Out of that many 80 million are currently in use.

He could be trying to show that for the first 10 years RIM sold 100 million devices then in the next 2 years + 1/4 they sold the next 100 million device. Not bad for a said dead company.

and then someone soon will say, "well those numbers aren't even close to Iphones and android phones". Whatever dire news comes up with RIM i can careless. The new RIM is on the correct path. They wont conquer the market but they will succeed in their plans for the future.

Kevin tweeted the idea that RIM should rename QNX Blackberry, and then their 80 million users would look closer to 400 million. numbers are important but RIM knows best what it needs to do to capture/recapture market share. Those 200 million devices can arguably represent people who've used a BB those people will not ignore BB10 if marketing keeps up their end. There's is more than hope for BB. 10percent increase in userbase every quarter for the past couple years. Demand for BlackBerry seems to be elastic people buy them. Period
Just becsuse we don't hear about them as much as the GS3 or new iPhone 5, goes to show you how BB mindshare in NA may have faded but the brand overall is still top 100. Still has plenty of life

I wonder how many of the 80 million actually like their BlackBerry. It seem pretty prevalent around the people I associate with that they either 1. Hate their phone 2. Are jealous of other employees who get to have an iPhone or 3. Carry around two phones.
