I can't say for sure why you are seeing that, but there are alternative ways to install it if using Link is not working.

If you want to do an "in-place", "non-destructive" update, you can use Sachesi. If you don't mind a fresh OS install and re-configuring things over and losing any data saved on the devices internal memory, you can use an autoloader. Files to use either of those methods can be obtained here:

If you need more info on how to use those methods, post back.

Did you restart your phone? For some reason the update may pop up after you restart your phone.

Omni - do autoloaders clear the bad "other data" or is a "Reload"/ restore to factory via Link the only way to clear that?

My issue, and from posts today, likely a few other's problem, too. Error during my update attempt yesterday via Link actually added to my "other data", now sitting at 15.5, with 465mb free. Prior was 13/14 something.

Actually what an autoloader does is virtually identical to what the "Reload software" function in Link does. (Assuming the autoloader you are using has the same software versions that Link would use in that case - ie the latest supported Software Release bundle for the carrier the device is activated with)

Technically, the Link method is the only officially supported method to do that - autoloaders are meant for internal staff use only.

The OS update process initially writes the updated files to a temporary partition in the device storage, this provides a way to revert to the previous OS/configuration if the update fails, because it is not overwriting what is already running on the device.

After a few succesful OS boots, it moves the new OS to the "permanent" partition. That could be what is taking up the always elusive "Other data" space that I can't ever seem to get a straight answer about what that category specifically pertains-to. (We have speculated many times about what that category holds exactly, haven't seen a detailed technical explanation for it though. Clearly at least some of it is protected application storage - ie "stuff you're not supposed to touch" - which might weakly explain why BlackBerry has never apparently bothered to document it publicly.)

If you want to make 100% sure you kill off things on a new OS load, then do a security wipe either before or after installing the new OS with an autoloader, or both.

Backup your phone and default your phone to factory settings. Then try to update your phone and you are done restore your backup. This is how I got my phone updated.
