I was looking at the phones, and the z10 has a screen size of 4.2 " while the z30 has a screen size of 5 ".

So I did some calculations, and it seems the z30 is just a 20 % bigger z10.

    Coincidentally 10 + 20 is equal to 30, so z10 + 20 is z30.

If you take 4.2" z10 and multiply it by 0.20 (20%) you get 0.84".

If you add 0.84" to 4.2" you get 5.04" which is the screen size of the z30.

So what do you think is this a coincidence or was the z30 named in proportion to the 20% increase in screen size to the z10?

(Although being an engineer, im a firm believer that when it comes to mathematics there are no coincidences.)

    Not trolling, just genuinely intrigued.

I love the z10, q10 and have not tried the z30 yet.

Lol that's an awesome find you did there! Could be why they named it the Z30... Z30 also has a couple extra hardware differences like miracast and USB on the go

    Silly me, I thought that 10 + 20% = 12 !

But the OP, "being an engineer", managed to bring me onto the right path!

I'm not sure what your are trying to prove here,

    10 + 20% is 12, 10 + 20 is also 30, 4.2 + 20% is also 5.04 since the z10 has a 4.2" screen not 10" so I don't know why you are multiplying 10 by 20 %. You aren't adding 20% to 10 you are adding 20% of the z10 screen size of 4.2" onto it's self which equates to 5.04".

    The math works out..

If you take today's date: January 25, 2014

01/25/2014 add up the numbers 1+2+5+2+1+4, you get 15.
Then multiply those digits with each other, 1x5=5
Add that to today's date and you get the 30!

I predict they will release the Z30 to all carriers that don't already have it, today!!!

If you take 2014, subtract the five years obama's been president, divide it by 666 you get 3.01651651651..

That loosely resembles pi, so it has to be true.

Therefore we are able to know the world will end in the third month (March), the first day, at 6:51GMT. 651 then repeats itself to infinity to remind us of the impending doom and gloom.

Well, the idea is that if math would have been involved in a "true" sense, (and following your 20% hypothesis) they would have called it Z12.

My opinion is that they chose to name it Z30 because:

    1. they needed to show it was an all-touch device like Z10 (so they kept the "Z" prefix - the "Q" being used for physical keyboard devices)
    2. they needed to show it was a superior device to Z10 (so the suffix must be higher than 10)
    3. "Z15" would have seemed like a Z10 iteration (so not so much a "premium" device), while "Z20" looks a little lame (I don't know if this is an universal perception - it does look lame to me. I also believe I am not the only one: numbers like 1, 3, 5 or 7 are in general prefered in various cultures - it probably has to do with how the brain works)

So the first good number was 30: Z30

This is my opinion about how Z30 was baptized.

    Pi is 3.14159265

    3.14159265 x 666 is 2092.32

    2092.32 - 2009 is 83.3 years,

    Your erroneous calculation is funny

Or knowing the screen size difference between a five inch phone and a 4.2 inch phone is approximately 20%, some lazy designer just added 20 to 10 and called it z30.
