If you picked a BlackBerry purely for bbm then go for the xperia z.
However if there was other reasons you chose BlackBerry then you will need to consider the issue carefully.
More features is not always a better thing.

The Sony is a nice phone. Be careful of the waterproof claim though. It's only as good as the covers on the sides.

Well it depends on what you want really.
Ahh I know what I mean, if you only use your phone for certain things then having extra bells and whistles that you will never use is not a good thing.

Let me put it out there that the xperia z is a great phone and was the only competition for the z10 for me.

But it all comes down to what the op needs?

I have both. At first I used the Z10 less, only for biz in the USA and wanted to use the Z more. More cool apps, stuff relevant to investments etc. Now, with the improvements to the Z10, the 10.1 SW, BBM, skype, whatsapp (which we use heavily in business), netflix, Kindle, I tend to carry the Z10 more, and use the Z only when I am in Colombia. The HUB is much more efficient way to manage communcation and I like the battery life of the Z10 alot more. If battery life is important, you might want to lean to the Z10.

BBM / skype / whatsapp are now becoming non issues they will be on both platforms (yes I know BBM a little later on Android).

If I want to watch movies, however, the Z with the Bravia engine and larger screen is a touch better. Music is a little better on the Z as well, with the Sony Walkman program where you can really tailor the music sound vs. the Z10 which does not have that yet.

I'm also considering both of device now, z and z10, since bbm is going to be available in android soon. I love Sony phone, the best Android phone manufacturers in my opinion. But it all depends on what you want from the phone itself, I refrain myself from switching to android, because I loved BB10, the flow and everything else. Just note down everything you want from each phone and choose the one you want most.
