I'm curious to know why most of the die hard BlackBerry supporters fell in love with the company in first place. Was it the hardware and design of their devices or was it the software and the security it provided?

If it was the software, and you've made the switch to the Priv, please explain.

It started with the hardware. Oh that Bold 9000!!!

As time passed it was more about the software. Their hardware really went downhill.

Pretty much ended up being both. Z30 has been my best phone all round to date.

Software. BlackBerry 10 is most likely the best mobile OS I've ever used.

Hardware first. Always had QWERTY. Then software, as it proved itself useful... :-)

Both. With the hardware, not so much that it cutting edge, but I'm impressed with its durability and bargain costs I bought them for.

Hardware (keyboard) and slowly more and more software mostly (BB10)
Right now a combo of them again once I'm getting the Priv

Started with by BlackBerry Torch (I know late adopter) because of the hardware especially the keyboard. The Z10, Z30 and Passport were all the OS even with the horrible bugs on all three. I do love the form factor of the Passport though. I always knew something was seriously missing with the two Z devices though. I hope to get the Priv now as it has a smaller version of the Passport keyboard with working apps I need.

I would say both. The early hardware and mail delivery platform was the first thing that got me interested in BlackBerry. I think my first BlackBerry phone was a 7100 series. I have been a BlackBerry user ever since. Had a pearl, a curve, an 8300 and a few of 9xxx series. My 9900 was probably the best of those RIM models and OS 7 was pretty good for it's time.

As RIM became BlackBerry and BB10 was introduced, I would have to say the software became the primary reason to stick with BB. Played around with a Z10 and waited for the Q10 to be released. It was a challenge at first, especially with 10.1, but the software has gotten progressively better with each release. With the Q, I loaded a lot of leaks because it was an AT&T locked device, but with my Passport I bought unlocked. BB10 is probably the best mobile OS I have ever used. I'll miss it when/if it goes away.

Passport. It's not as big as you think it is.

Tripped over BlackBerry looking for a cheap replacement to my Droid. I bought a Z10 for a hundred bucks off Kijiji, and thought it was pretty cool right away.

As soon as I got into the software though... man! Loved the fluidity of the OS. The flow of everything was quite striking. And the Hub... good gravy, the HUB! Just brilliant.

    So both.

    8100 Pearl, 8800 series, Bold 9700/9780, Bold 9900, Z10, Z30, and Passport SE!

Software: BES, BES and BES! BB10, BBOS6/7.

Ingenuity if the founders yet also that was their ignorance.

Hardware I guess. I bought BB for the awesome battery life - *days* without charging, and the PKB.

BBOS sucked. It was only when I got other phones that I realised how unusual (on other OS's) was my near-daily battery-pull to overcome some problem on BBOS.

So, hardware for me. The software was always the price I had to pay for the battery and PKB.

The keyboard was love at first sight.
The software has always been great for me, the hub would be the second love of my life.

Software for me. Fell in love with the 8100 because of push email and the tool belt. I always thought it was awesome how pushing the BlackBerry button gave the exact options I wanted. I also liked suretype
On bb10 it's about peek, flow and multitasking. I also like the virtual keyboard. My ideal BlackBerry would be an updated z10 with a kick *** camera, a return of BIS , and the same functionality with Outlook that the old OS had.

Hardware. I've never really, for any extended period of time anyway, used any other brand. Being a gadget guy, I've purchased and used androids on occasion over the years, without any security issues. But for the most part there never has been an extensive period of time where I haven't had their security. Perhaps I take it for granted? Or have people had issues with security being compromised on Androids? But to my original point of hardware, the new PPSE takes it to a new level.

Edit: BB10 is far and away the best os in my opinion.

Hardware for sure...I hated the spinning clock of death but each BlackBerry got better and better. My 9650 and 9930 got me hooked onto the software. BB10 is 100 x better, sure it could be even more advanced but unfortunately BlackBerry doesn't want to go that route.

Keep 'em coming.. So far the only person who leans towards the software, and is making the switch to the Priv, doesn't seem to realize that it's an Android lol.

    What's this 'was' business!?

    Sure, my battery blows chunks...

My screen is on the small side...

I don't have all the social media apps (don't want em tbh)...

    The hardware is pretty :meh:

But somehow I just love this lil bugga!!

    BB10/Z10 :FTW:
