Still getting the Z10 no matter what.

Interesting. Now where is my BlackBerry Z10?
Horses scare me. Anyways, neat phone, nice display, but it's an android and I'm not interested in that. Smartphone manufacturers will always be playing catch-up.
But the quality of the actual phone is what matters..... right? I mean that's been our excuse for the past years with our blackberrys, I'm sure others will do the same with the Xperia Z, after all, a lot of people don't mind android.
On a smaller note, funny how they're also calling it the "Z". Since when did this "Z" come into account with naming phones, it used to be "X" :P
Cool... great display, and waterproof... (that's actually really nice). But outside of that, what's the attraction? That's the problem here with Android OEM's. They all have the SAME OS and the only thing they can do to differentiate is to work on hardware or display... not user experience. It's a shame really. Their all relying on one source to make them better as opposed to actually taking it upon themselves to innovate. I'm soooooo glad RIM didn't decide to take the easy route!!!
I've watched a demo video about that phone. Nothing relatively new except its a waterproof phone. The screen resolution just improved more like always, but no new features.
the impressive part for me was him pouring water over it, i wish it was mandatory to make phones water proof id never have to worry about knocking my drinks over or texting in the rain again
I can see good water resistance being useful in some applications. Did they publish the IP rating?
Actually a lot of what makes up the UI in Android is the skin. Compare devices with vanilla Android, HTC Sense, and Samsung Touchwiz and you'll see how different Android can look and act. The skin affects the stock browser, stock email client, stock calendar, stock widgets, extra functions available in the notification tray and app drawer, etc. I've never used a Sony Android device so I'm not sure what its UI is like.
I used to have a Sony phone and they were really well made hardware but when they decided to use Android, I left it and bought a BB. So glad I switched, although I do wish Sony would develop their own OS (disappointed they didn't), considering that Japanese mobile technology are years ahead of what we have here.
Neat, why everyone is not making their devices waterproof is beyond me. Since it is made by Sony I'm sure you can expect to pay through the nose for it.
lol who knows, maybe the Z10 will be water proof too :D
after watching this i just had a quick google on waterproofing and liquipel will permanently waterproof your phone for $59 (only certain brands atm:rolleyes:), tempted to bug them to offer this for the z10 lol
You're right, the skin makes a difference but the OS is the same. If, Google takes there time and doesn't fix bugs or doesn't upgrade, ALL the OEM's are left waiting... they can't do a damn thing about it... and, there really isn't any rhyme or reason as to which OEM gets what updates at what time.... NO real cohesiveness. RIM and Apple have the advantage here. They run both the software and hardware side so they can release an update every week, if they so choose to do so, and all of their customers will get it, not a select few.
This is quite true, and also when you add carrier testing, carrier bloatware, carriers disabling features, etc it can get a bit messy. I learned my lesson with the Samsung Vibrant. Eclair was on its way out and the SGS series was set to get the Froyo update soon after release. "Soon after release" turned into 6 months. Also, GPS was nonfunctional and it took Samsung too long to admit there was a problem. Then they threw together a fix, that for the most part didn't work. After that ordeal I swore I'd only buy phones that I enjoyed the CURRENT capabilities of, and not what it may do in the future.
ETA: Actually what I just wrote reminded me that I'm pretty sure it's up to the OEMS to push out updates like bug fixes, security patches, etc. Google just pushes out the actual OS updates and that's when things get messy with carrier involvement.
Meh, it's android. Like all the other androids. Nice hardware though. Sony is classy. Now, if THEY licensed BB10.....
This is probably Sony's most beautiful phone yet. The design of it looks great, but then you realize it's running Android... a not so great skinned version too. Had they out stock on it, it would garner interest.
Still waiting on my BB10 QWERTY
Cant say i am thrilled about sony's skin either. but yeah good hardware and being water proof is pretty cool
There is no race to be ontop with regards to technology. Theres too many companies, too many products. You'd be releasing a phone every month a little better then the last. Its about the experience and how many you sell. BB10 will do great.
I like that waterproof idea, they should license BB10. I basically turn into a fish in the summer, surrounded by water here in BC. I need waterproofing.
I asked the guys over at iPhone Cases and iPad Cases | LifeProof to make a case for the Z10 but they have no plans so far. Hope somebody does
With technology there no comparison (FOR GOD SAKES ITS SONY WE'RE TALKING ABOUT!). But that does not change the fact that it'll run android. Once RIM builds reveals this new OS (or what left of it to reveal..) they'll have plenty of time to advance their technology using the new JUMBO CASH FLOW.
Smart phone to be fair to them.
Cute phone. But when people drop their phone into liquid its not the water that's the worst culprit. It's usually the urine or alcohol. You'd think that the Japanese would make a pee proof phone based on the porn they produce.
What is there to catch up to? That video literally showed nothing ground breaking while I will admit a water proof phone would be a nice bonus, it's nothing in comparison to the OS and hardware.
This phone will most likely be marketed to a different 'type of person', than say, a Z10.
Absolutely beautiful phone. So detailed. I wish BB10 phones could be like this.
