The only thing that bothers me with 9700 on ATT 3G is the fact that while network is pretty fast, the connection is always slow with BB. Not sure if it is due to the processor or due to BES connection, but I am really not satisfied with the network speed.
I like to listen to streaming music such as various online radios that have their own apps, in addition to Pandora and Slacker. Not to mention the website browsing, which is a real pain at times, waiting fror pages to load.

So, considering all these, I am thinking about going with 9900 on AT&T or actually switching to Verizon and getting an android phone.

Has anyone jumped from 9700 to 9900 and saw a substantial speed increase?

so today was the occassion that i upgraded from my 2 year old 9700 to 9900.

and its worth it......i believe its around 5 times faster than my 9700.....browing, bbm music, wikitude, and THE KEYBOARD is awesome....no comparison.

Well, you are on Bell. Not sure about the service quality or speed, but AT&T service is a bit spotty even in New York City. Did you find 9900 to have better reception?

Now that you mentioned bbm music, is there anyway to use Google Music or Amazon Cloud with Blackberry, or is there any other type of service for Blackberry where I can upload my music and listen to it on my phone when I am outside without using storage space? I mean I can upload 100GB of music online, and think about, it Amazon let's you store the music for Free once you subscribe to any plan (like $20/yr)

There is no true benchmark application for BB, right? To compare models performance?

I wish Verizon 99xx was 4G, why would they release a phone that's not compatible with network?

Are you still running os 5 on your 9700? If your then there's no doubt.
2ce the cpu. Alots more of ram. 2nd gen. Webkit browser. Your going feel like you got a new car.
As far as music go. Have you tried I <3 radio? Besides that the 9900 has 8gbs on board storage. That's a lot of music. If that's not enough space pick up a 32gb sd card.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I am running 5.0, in fact I tried 6.0, there were few things that I liked (universal search is awesome) but also few stuff that I wish I could turn off, or revert back to original setting (like locking the screen would also lock the volume rocker, was that a practical joke that was reverted back on the next release?) Due to terrible memory issue, I went back to 5.0

Anyway, AT&T is really making me upset.. Does anyone know if there is a big data speed difference between 9900 and 9930? What's the reason it can't be 4G with VZ.. Maybe it is not real 4G with AT&T anyway? We know it is not LTE.

Big difference, speed works great for me on the AT&T network. the 9700 is just slower, I know the browser hung up quite a bit for me but doesn't do it on the 9900. Get it, you won't regret it!

No matter what model you pick:torch, full touch, curve or bold.......the OS 7 devices are night and day different than the OS6 devices.

OS 5 to OS 6 wasn't a big jump, but just know you can not make a bad pick, maybe the 'Storm3' if you don't like all touch screens

Couple of words on the new OS devices....some folks are experiencing a certain amount of nuking and bricking. I'm not saying the majority of are experiencing it, I'm saying some are. Two out of my three OS7 devices have nuked themselves.

Additionally, be aware that the camera on the 99xx is not that great. There is a world of difference between the camera on my 9810 and my 9860 and my 9930. If that matters, give it some thought.

Aside from that, I find that my 9930 is just a joy to use. The keyboard is just fantastic. It is fast. Feels wonderful in your hand. And the display, although small, is crisp and bright.

I love my 9930. Wish they hadn't gone with such a bad camera. The camera on my 9860 is wonderful, and that device is quite thin itself.

On the carriers....my AT&T devices are much faster than the Verizon one. As far as reception, both get the same exact reception and drop in the same exact spot. So in my day to day experience carrying devices from both networks, I prefer the AT&T network. I find that the coverage is the same and on my devices the AT&T is faster.

My Atrix, since not using Blur, is faster than my BBerries when it comes to streaming and browsing. But I had to quit Blur.

In short, yes... without a doubt!

I used 9700 for 2 years and loved it, changed to 9900 in September and I think it's a lot easier to use. The only downer is the battery life of the 9900 and the UMA connection. The 9700 used to last me for nearly 2 days while 9900 needs an overnight charge.

Positives;
*Touch screen really makes it fantastic to use + larger screen, photo viewing is awesome..
*Browser is a lot faster
*Camera is a lot better
*OS 7 is so fast - there's no comparison

Negatives;
*Music streaming / youtube - not too sure...
*Battery life not as good
*No UMA - if you use your phone in area where there's not strong signal and you rely on wireless 9900 doesn't support UMA. (big downer-but you get used to it...)
*Apps, not everything is available (Linkedin for example)

Thanks, I don't think I ever used UMA since AT&T doesn't really have UMA service. With T-Mo and 8900, I used to use it all the time, and I think my wife still uses it as well. If UMA works with AT&T and 9700, I would be very disappointed because my coverage at home is terrible and I could have used UMA!

Regarding camera, I know that BB cameras are a gamble, like 8900 had an excellent camera, but they went ahead and messed it up on 9000 then they improved a bit on 9700 and if they used similar technology as 9000 on 9900 I would assume it is a downgrade. It seems like shutter is faster, but if the quality is bad, fast shutter doesn't really help, also fast shutter doesn't mean fast refresh rate, I can still see distortion when the object is moving, it's all digital, what do you expect.

I have been wanting to move over to Android because I was getting tired of the small screen (I look at excel files, pdf files and some word documents occasionally) and not being able to see a lot of data on screen was bothering me. Another reason was the browsing and streaming music.

I think AT&T offers 30 days trial with option of reverting back to out of contract status.
I may just try that if AT&T agrees to giving me a microcell.

The Blackberry Bold 9700 is a good Blackberry device and i remember when i used it for some time, then sold it and get myself the 9780.

The Bold 9700 Blackberry is starting to be old, and it's time to upgrade and the Bold 9900 can be a great choice... The OS7 is very nice and you will notice that the 9900 speeds are making your life easy when compared to the Bold 9700 Blackberry phone.

I think that if you like your Bold 9700 you will love the Blackberry Bold 9900, i also think that the new Blackberry 9790 can be also a good upgrade for the Bold 9700 device.

I had a chance to play with 9900, and there are a lot of things they just left out (i forgot to check if the rocker was disabled with keyboard lock, can someone confirm if it still can control music player when keyboard is locked?)

Where are the browser shortcuts? No more B for bottom T for top or Space for scroll down or Shift+Space for scroll up? No more G for Go? Just because it has a touch screen why would they leave stuff that made BB keyboard so useful out?

The keyboatd shortcuts are there, it's an option you have to check to enable them in the options while in the browser.
