A wish for future BlackBerry OS: Customizable Home Screen Folders
- Looking at various videos on Blackberry 6 and the yet to be released Blackberry Playbook and its OS, I thought of something that may be extremely beneficial for the future editions of the OS of Blackberry: having the option to create views on the home screen aside from the basic ones that are already given on the phone. (Such as All, Media, Messages, Downloads, Frequent ... the ones that come to mind off the top of my head). So, for instance if someone wanted to have games, navigational apps, etc. in a separate view page from showing up in any other views, they would have the option to create a specific view. In addition, it would be nice if users had the option not to show any of the other basic views, instead having the views of their choice available on the home screen. (Though I'm sure Messages would definitely be a view almost all users would enable being shown.) Other than that, the other home screen functions pretty much stay the same. Of course, this is wishful thinking on my part, and in an ideal world this idea may come to fruition sooner than later (and I would more than gladly come back to BlackBerry). What are some thoughts?

In OS6, from the All screen press the BB key (not sure about Torch users, press and hold on an icon gets a short menu and then choose Full Menu I believe) and Add Folder.
But yes, to answer your question - custom folders for apps, games, unused icons, etc, have been there for a few years. And if you don't want to see the default folders, just hide them.11-17-10 12:50 AMLike 0 - You may also want to look at the Appleberry themes. They have a feature called "stacks". Essentially, you have a folder of stuff, place the folder on the homescreen, and when you scroll over it, the stack expands, giving you access to it. I have both Appleberry and Appleberry Dark, though I don't use the stacks feature.

- I get what you all are saying, as I used to own a Curve running OS 4.(something) (and knew people who had a Blackberry w/ OS 5) and had various folders on my home screen. To clarify what I was getting at, let's say I owned a Torch running Blackberry 6. On the home screen, I'd have the option of scrolling through the 5 views of All, Favorites, Media, Frequent & Downloads. I would like to see the option of being able to add views and customize them to my liking, and also be able to hide views I did not deem necessary. Maybe there are themes out there to which a solution to this problem can be found, but it would be nice if this were an option out of the box.
Doing a little research, I found there was an article on the home page not too long ago which kind of voiced the same desires as I have. I don't have enough posts to directly link to it though ... crackberry (dot) com (slash) blackberry-6-poll-do-you-use-new-navigation-bar-move-between-homescreen-views-all-favorites-media-et
Edit: I also edited my original post to clear up what I meant to say in the first place. "Folders" was misleading, and "views" makes more sense.Last edited by 2words1day; 11-17-10 at 04:46 PM.
11-17-10 04:35 PMLike 0 - sleepngbearRetired ModeratorI think what the OP is talking about is specific to OS6 on the Torch and goes beyond simply creating and managing folders. I know I would love to have the option to rename the home screen tabs and move stuff around them like you can with folders. I don't use the tabs at all as they are delivered, but I would if I could customize them to my liking. Definitely something that would be a huge plus in a future OS.
