What's the purpose of having it whenever I try to use it says no upgrades available. But I see threads on here bout a new Os. Sorry still new to all this

There has not been an official upgrade in a while. What you are seeing is leaked versions of a new os. Before you attempt to do this (if you decide) please read the "how to" threads to help. And always back-up before you do anything.
yea, thats just one way to update when your carrier does release a new OS. RIM has released newer OS upgrades for other carriers, which are compatible with all devices that OS was meant for. so not all of them are leaked per se, some are but most are other carriers official releases that can be used by anyone.
