    Yes, it is free. However, sometimes you will require to have an active data plan in order to access some applications in your blackberry (like BBM, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). But that totally depends on your service provider.

    No, on BBs to access e-mail (that is pushed), you need BIS. Same for BBM.
    Won't work over any data plan or WiFi only.

    PS: And yes MSN is free but I don't think anyone uses MSN or, Windows Live as they now call it. They messed up so much with that software that they buried it. I think most people use Facebook to chat now, or maybe Skype too. That's what I have anyways.

    I've also noticed barely anyone uses WLM anymore but the app for Blackberry is free.

    Now all we need is a Skype app for general blackberry use

    The imo.im beta app will do Skype chat. Nothing free that does Skype calling yet.
