I am looking into buying a used T-mobile branded 8120, unlocking it and using it in an Eastern European country with a local sim card. There is no Blackberry service in that country and no data plan. My biggest concern is: Will I be able to use the phone's WiFi capabilities to access internet, gmail, some apps using a WiFi connection?

You can use the wifi to access apps that can function on wifi. For best results visit those respective developers site to see if they allow function on wifi.

you can use opera mini 5 beta, threw that you can check gmail and stuff.

You can't use your google apps, trust me, they won't work over wifi.

YOu can use Kayak travel app (very handy for travel)

Some other apps work too, like wordpress

    most don't

Opera mini is a real lifesaver.
