I'm not clear when the torch is using wifi for data instead of the network. On the curve the wifi logo became white. I haven't seen the wavy lines on the torch go white.
I want to use only wifi for data when I'm home.

If they're not turning white then you're not connecting. The wifi icon will turn white when a wifi connection is made, and the BB logo should show up to the right of it when data is over wifi. You can always check and make sure by going to Manage Connections and click on Service status at the bottom, there it will show you BIS connection either through the mobile network or wifi.
