be sure to remove the vendor.xml file, and you shouldnt have any problems. Im using an ATT 8310 on the TMobile network...and I upgraded to 4.5 ATT file. No problems

No it will not be locked again. As jack said make sure you delete the vendor .xml file. Link in my sig for proper upgrade/downgrade instructions.

Unlocking is a one-time, irreversible event. You can't accidently relock it.

It may be a valid concern for phones other than BlackBerries, but for BlackBerries, unlocking is a one-time, irreversible event.

I am really interested in buying a Blackberry Strom. I live in the UAE, and they haven't released it here yet. But they're selling unlocked ones so that it can work on any service provider. Does that mean that I could still update the software and it won't lock again?

OK, so I need to delete vendor.xml. How do I do that? Going to buy one for use on AT&T. Any functionality not going to work?

danielx's advice is incorrect. The vendor.xml file has nothing to do with the locked / unlocked status of your phone. It is only necessary to delete the vendor.xml file from your PC if you are installing an OS from a carrier other than your own. As is stated above, unlocking is a one-time, irreversible event.

So what you are saying is if I have unlocked my att BB and use it on att's network with an att os I don't need to remove the vendor.xml?

That is correct. You do not need to delete the vendor.xml. It won't hurt anything if you do, but it is not necessary.
