Not sure. Do you have one to test it out with to let us know?
actually a friend had asked me if it would work, since he just changed his home router to the 802.11n that his new laptop required. I was hoping somebody here had set one up already.
:)
I once talked to T-mo about using wifi n UMA, etc. when I had problems. One of the 1st questions they asked was is I was using a 802.11n router. They said that my blackberry is only compatible to wireless b/g routers. I guess the bandwidth is too much for BB? But I'm using a type g so I was fine either way n didn't pay mind to it. But give it a shot either way
The 8820 does not support 11N, only 11G, so you'll need a dual mode router or a G.
Patrick
I think it should work IF your n router is using the 2.4 gig spectrum and not the 5.2gig spectrum of some of the draft 802.11n gear. Every old g or b device that ive had detects the N network in my office.
That being said if you are using a N router that is using 5.2 than your out of luck. (remember the "A" routers that used 5.2?). If your router does use the 2.4 spectrum (and the blackberry does or it wouldnt support b/g) turn on your SSID on the router and see if the BB detects your router. (you may have to turn off MAC address filtering if you have that enabled). If it detects it then you can configure some of your advanced settings from there (security etc...).
I dont see why it wouldnt be backwards compatable if the BB and the router is on the same frequency
(i just learned with some research that the bb 8820 is b/g/a. With other people having the same problem. Can figure out why N would be unsupported then. good luck i hope you find a solution)
11N is NOT supported. Protocals are MORE than just what frequency (channel) you are on, that's why.
If you don't have G, it won't work with an 8820. =)
More proof? Look at your box, it will clearly tell you it supports G not N.
Thanks you very much for the info!
Not exactly the same situation... But I AM able to connect to an Apple Time Capsule which is 802.11N with an 8320. I know that I can also use the same wireless on my laptop (which is G). I realize its not the exact issue being discussed on this thread, but it is a WiFi BB on an N router nonetheless.

uhmm.. i was reading along and uhm Nowadays N Routers are BACKWARDS compatible (working with an N Router, A WII that accordingly works with b/g routers only)
So like i said its backwards compatible.
BUT!! the fun thing is your phone probably won't work. I previously had a T-Mobile dash which would kick off when i trieed to connect to my Belkin N Router.. and now a Blackberry Curve 8320 which... Turns off & back on again after i try to connect.
Switching it to G or B only will not work either. So N Routers WILL work with B/G but they are just not friendly with phones...
I tried connecting my 8320 to linksys wrt110 (wireless N) and all it does is reboot my phone over and over. It (UMA) worked great with my old "g" router

The latest Beta (4.5.0.37) Supports N Routers :) Mine finally works.. I found something recently and version 4.2.2.184 and up SHOULD support N Routers.. downfall with the latest BETA is the UMA won't work on it.
You're right but MOST N Routers are always BACKWARDS compatible with B/G... so that is still weird than ;)
I don't think it has to do with backward compatibilty. Here is a support article I found on Belkin:
Doc ID : KB14677
Last Modified : 2008-01-09
Document Type : Support
Environment
* BlackBerry smartphone
* SDR149479
Problem
Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry smartphones cannot connect to Belkin N Wireless Routers (Model: F5D8233-4) and Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Routers (Model: F5D8232-4). The Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry smartphone shuts down and restarts repeatedly when attempting to connect to the Belkin wireless router.
Resolution
Note: The resolution to this issue may not be available from all wireless service providers.
To resolve this issue, upgrade to BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2.338 or later. For instructions, see KB03621.
I have to make an assumption that if 4.2.2.338 has the fix, that 4.5 will also.
how do I set up the wifi on my 8830
Uhmm i don't think the 8830 HAS Wi-Fi..
Yeah i have seen that that is why i am saying just upgrade the OS :) It will work like a charm!
Something get me crazy about 108.22n My 8820 don't stop to transfert some data on wifi.... according to logs on BES, it ping every 30 seconds....
But my router B/G is out so .... no clues ....
(sorry for posting in such an old thread)
Well, I got the 4.5 Update and it still doesnt work.
Should I try and dig around for the 4.2.2.338 update?
(id really rather not)
Is there another solution?
*edit*
well after toying with it a bit it seems a bit more reliable then previous...but still only works 25% of time :/
*EDIT*
Well I had two stupid mistakes which was what was stopping me from using the wifi.
I forgot to change the router to broadcast in G, then It was WPA secured so i hate to change it WEP, then it was all good :)
Sorry to rehash this but I am "experimenting" with my 8320 while I wait for 8900 to come out on the 11th. I just installed OS V4.5.0.81 and I am still getting error W010. Now I am using N on 5Ghz band. Also my SSID is Invisible.
I was hoping this would work since 8900 is coming out next week. If I can not get this to work with out switching to G or 2.4Ghz than I may try to do with out. Unfortunately I live in a neighborhood where there are MANY wireless networks. All of these are on G or A using 2.4Ghz and I fear there could be some interference problems.
I have read several posts where users are getting their berries to work on N routers but none are clear on the setting the have to use. If anyone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.
Oh, I am using a DGL-4500 router.
