I have the same issue with my 9930. I can connect to some routers with a signal that's half as strong as it should be, others I can't connect to at all... low signal strength even with the phone touching the router.

I loaded the latest OS and there was no difference, and tried disabling mobile network, etc, no difference. This must be a hardware problem. Has anyone had their phone replaced by RIM for this issue?
Hi I am taking my 2nd 9900 back (sigh) for this reason and I was advised to do so by Virgin Mobile Canada both times. Not happy, just a bit worried but really my Wifi falls off as soon as I step 25 feet away ! My 3G does NOT kick in at all - I get a message saying it is unable to connect to the internet.
(yes I do have a data plan)

I have the same issue with my 9930. My bedroom is about 50 feet away from my Apple Airport Extreme router. From my bedroom, I've got my Tivo, Windows and Mac laptops, a Palm phone and an iPad connecting to my wireless network, with (most) of these displaying a full signal (haven't checked Tivo signal strength). The 9930 has about 30% signal strength and has issues seeing more than 3 networks available when my iPad is showing more than 7.

Anyone having wifi trouble with their 9900 or 9930... try this:

Check your router's IP address. If it's 192.168.0.1 then change it to anything else, like 192.168.10.1. If your phone's wifi starts working better after this, please reply here.

I am experiencing the same poor WiFi reception with the 9900 that everyone else has found. My previous 9000 was rock solid. I fix it by turning off all the connections from the home screen and then turning them all on. Seems to clear the problem--at least for awhile. I'm wondering if it's the version of OS7. My router is set for "G" only, channel 3.

I get good reception. Maybe you all have defective units? Stranger things have happened.... Or maybe you need to change the channels on your routers? Mix it up a bit. I don't think this is a 9900 issue, I can go across the street from my house (20yds maybe) and still have a good wifi signal.

So, i asked about this issue on one of bb's support forums and sum1 said the issue may be related to the 9900 having dual wifi bands; N & G. He suggested disabliing the "g" channel from the 9900 wifi, any ideas as to how to go about doin this. the only thing in wifi options is to "reset to default settings"

    im lost...

Typical two story colonial with basement, attic. I can go anywhere on the property and have wifi. Router is in central location, cordless phones are DECT 6.0, good placement. Netgear dual band 5, 2.4, a/b/g/n. No issues at all with wifi strength.

Wifi reception on the new Bold 9900 from what people are reporting here sounds just like the Wifi reception on the Google Nexus S. My Iphone 4 has no Wifi reception problems but the Nexus S does have some major reception issues.

I've found that the 9930 has a weak Wifi connection. I had the 9650 prior and always had a good signal at home, and now its not nearly as strong on the 9930 and nothing has changed with my router etc...Hopefully this gets corrected in the next OS release perhaps. I hate to switch out the phone for a refurb or anything like that.

Compared to my iPhone 4 there is definitely a problem with my 9930, but I've always had this problem with BBs.

Same issue here. I use to have full bars on my bold 9870 in my bedroom which is adjacent to the computer room. now i only have 2 wifi bars and if i got to the far side of my bedroom... literally 3 steps further away from my router's direction (which would be about 2o ft from my router), the signal drops out! My psp, my laptop, my sister's ipod touch and my ps3 all have good signal at that distance.

Do you have a case on your 9900? I have found that when I remove my soft (OEM) case it improves the reception by 1 bar (I also tried covering the back with my hand and it immediately dropped a bar ! Moved my hand away and in a few seconds the bar came back) However when I'm in my bedroom I get 1 bar only. I might look at replacing the back cover one day, if they ever start selling different back covers for 9900's.

Man I guess I am not alone.... I thought the same thing, I have that B/G/N router that comes with fios, and compared to my ipod touch and laptop the wifi signal is horrible. If I move far enough away even when if I am in the same room I lose a bar.

I have a small 2 floor town house, and while the signal on my laptop stays full everywhere, when I go downstairs if I move around wifi calling on my blackberry starts to beep that I am losing wifi signal.

I hope its a software issue but I fear that its a hardware issue. The wifi on my brother samsung galaxy Android phone is just as bad.

yep mine WiFi signal range is degraded verses my 9700 too. I used to get 5 bars no matter where I was in my duplex (router is upstairs). Now when I'm downstairs I'm lucky if I can squeak out 3 bars. I may try another router and see if that helps though because I think my Linksys has b/g/n but the Asus is only b/g. I was having connectivity issues with the Linksys staying connected in general so that's why I swapped.

Almost everything about thei 9900/9930 is slower or worst compared to previous Blackberries.
The only thing that keep me holding on is only the awesome keyboard and the bigger screen
But every other thing is totally dissapointment for me as a loyal blackberry user.

Oh, I thought I was the unlucky one but now I see lots of people facing the same thing. Mine is a 9900Rogers, it used to work fine and catch wifi Ok, but then suddenly one day it cannot detect my hotspot where it use to be (I have a small house). Other devices no problems. Now I can only use wifi if I'm in my bedroom where I put my router
