In the booklet that came with the phone (vzw), it says that when I am connected with a wireless netowrk it will have a white wifi symbol and the name of the network next to it.

My wifi symbol is white, yet the name of the network is not listed. When I went into connections it is listed as being connected.

Is the booklet wrong? Is there something wrong with my phone? Am I not connected?

Yes, it will say your connection name on the top middle of the phone. Go to options, click on WIFI highlight your connection and hit menu and select edit... You will see an option to name your connection

Make sure that you using a theme that displays the network name. The default themes should show the network name right above the clock. Some 3rd party themes have the network name hidden.
