Wifi connection problems
I recently purchased a blackberry, but I have yet to sign up for a data plan with my carrier. Because I didn't want to be hit with pay-per-use data charges, I turned Data Services off in the Mobile Network Options. Now, for some reason, when I try to connect to a wifi network I get the following error message:
Unable to connect
Reason: failed to obtain an IP address
If it helps, I have an 8900 Curve unlocked from Rogers that I'm using with Fido.
Thanks!

I would check the wireless network settings first. Lots of things won't work without a data plan, but it should still connect. I would start by rebooting the router, then making sure that DHCP is turned on.

I used it on the access points around my university campus, so rebooting the router isn't an option here :p
I was able to connect if I changed Data Services to On. Is this related?

Something about changing the wifi settings to Hotspot Browser worked for me. I had the same problem before. Wasn't getting a cellular signal in the house but wanted to use Wifi. I was sitting beside the router so I knew the signal was strong :P
Changed the wifi settings to hotspot browser and voila, internet.
