OK, here goes folks. Just got a brand new Tmobile branded 8320 from Ebay. I was playing with the device before ever popping a SIM in, and was able to connect to my home network via Wifi and surf the Internet. After buying an unlock code and unlocking the device, I popped my ATT SIM in, and was happy I could now make phone calls.

Problem is now my Wifi connection is not working, I can no longer surf the Internet. I get the following message when opening the browser and attempting to goto a web page, "Unable to connect to the Internet, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provider."

I know the internet connection is good, for I'm using my laptop to connect and post to CB with it. I don't have a data plan with ATT (and don't want one, too pricey for my needs). On my previous RAZR I had with ATT, I would be charged on a per usage basis. Bought the Wifi enabled BB so I could surf without being charged on a per usage basis.

Here are my current settings when I click through the screens and settings:

Do a battery pull on your device while it is one. Leave it out for about 30 seconds. Also I would recommend changing your channel on your router to 11. Then reboot it and we will go from there. Basically sounds like it isnt giving you an ip address for your device. You could go to your router config page and scan the network for your blackberry. Update the mac address then allow it.

had this issue once, a battery pull solved the trick.

Maybe. 6 is usually the default channel. Wifi channels can overlap one another so if your having a week reception issue trying to change to another channel farther from the default of 6 like 1 or 11 usually works out better.

Do I have to have to have Data Services set to ON in order for WiFi to work? It is currently set to OFF on my BB...

That was the problem, not the router, now I have an IP address...

Now, is it true that you can't use UMA with AT&T? If so, how do I disable UMA?

    Thanks for all your help!

To be honest I have no idea if AT&T supports UMA or not. From what I understand, they dont. Options >Mobile Network >Connection Preference >Mobile Network Only. You will still get wifi for your data but calls and sms will go over EDGE.

I have a 8320 Curve and it is locked to T-mobile. I want to access the internet without a data plan as you have said you are doing. Can you explain what I need to do? I have searched the internet and tried several different options and try to run Opera mini 3.1 but it always fails to connect to the internet. The phone says I am connected but I can't get the browser (Opera mini) to work.
Will unlocking the phone solve this problem?
I have tried with and without the SIM card with no luck.
I know the BB browser won't work but I just want to be able to access the internet at home and at the office. Any advice would be appreciated. I have search this site but didn't find the answers I needed. I'm new here so sorry if I'm asking old questions. Thanks in advance!

If you do not have the BIS service package, the only application that will use Wifi is your Hotspot Browser.

Options / Advanced Options / Browser. Set the default to Hotspot Browser.

    Thanks for your reply.
The only options I have are Wi-Fi Browser and t-zones.
Are you saying I need to pay for a plan to access the web?

Great stuff! This is what I've been looking for.
I'm have a linksys router in storage and I'm currently using a Verizon router supplied by Verizon for FIOS. I'm moving in September so I'll get the Linksys back out and set it up. I'll let you know how it goes and if I need help.
    Thanks again!!
