how do you know if it is working? ive turned it and used it, but it still seemed slow. when you turn it on is it suppose to have a check mark on the right?
how come sometimes when my phone is loading up a web page, it shows the wifi icon on the corner and then disappears?

Does the name of your WiFi appear in the middle of your phone? And if you open Manage connections and hit Services Status and scroll down to WiFi Network it will tell you what network u r on and type. Scrolling a little further down from the services status you will find the WiFi options, click this and then click the active network (probably the name on your home screen) then click network details and it will tell you the network your on, signal strength and security settings of that network plus more.

    Good luck

Sounds like your wifi connection might either be having trouble connecting or staying connected.

I assume you have the setup all correct (security, keys, any mac address filtering, etc)?

Next thing to try is a firmware upgrade on the router if it's your router.

The first step is understanding how Wifi works on your Curve.

BlackBerry - Curve 8530 Specs - View BlackBerry Curve 8530 Specifications
    Wi-Fi
    802.11b/g enabled
Wi-Fi Alliance Certifications: WPA/WPA2 Personal and Enterprise, WMM, WMM Power Save, Wi-Fi Protected Setup
    Cisco CCX certification
Wi-Fi access to BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Wi-Fi access to BlackBerry Internet Server
Direct IP web browsing over Wi-Fi
    Support for UMA
    ...
Your carrier does not support Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), they do allow you to use Wifi to access your BIS account. That means your Email, Messages, Internet Browser and most third party applications that use data will be able to use your Wifi connection.

The difference is Voice and SMS text, they still require your carrier network connection.

The next step is to verify you have a good Wifi connection.

Connections / Wifi Options. Menu / Wifi Diagnostics.

You should have two green check marks and a successful connection status message. If there is an error, that will help with troubleshooting.

If your connection is good, disable your carrier network and send an email/messenger. It should behave normaly over Wifi.
